John H. Rees and Mary Eunice Michel had four children:
Mary Theodosia, b. c1869 (she's on the 1870 Orleans Parish census)
Harrison, b. c1871-74 (said to have died as a young man, he is still alive 1900, his mother shows herself mother of 4 children/4 living)
Marguerite Eunice b. 1876, moves to Oklahoma, then to Ft. Worth TX, m. Kingston after 1900 census.
John Henry, b. 1879, m. Mary Elizabeth Fitzgerald, died Hugo, Choctaw County, OK.

John H. and Mary Eunice moved 1885-1887 from Coushatta, Red River Parish to Bay St. Louis, Hancock Co. MS, where he died June 3, 1887. Mary Eunice and the children continued to live in Bay St. Louis for several years. Mary Theodosia married H. P. Belt there in 1894. The family (except for Harrison) was in New Orleans by 1900.

Lizzie Neal Skipper (1871-1948) & "Code" Fennell & F E Franklin

Neal Skipper (Lizzie Neal Skipper) married Code Fennell 4 Jan 1890 in Bienville Parish, LA.

As Mrs L N Phenel she married F E Franklin 20 Aug 1901 in Red River Parish, LA. Lizzie & 2nd husband are buried at Rocky Mount Cemetery, west of Ringgold, Bienville Parish, LA. 1st husband Code & first child, Oza F, are buried at the "old" Rocky Mount Cemetery which for whatever reason was abandoned in favor of the present location.

Sarah Fennel married Walker Honey 10 Mar 1887 in Bienville Parish. I'm taking the leap that she was likely the sister of Code.

Does anyone know anything about the family of Sarah & Code Fennel?? I've seen a few spelling variations - one as Phenel or Phennel so I guess how it was spelled depended on the person doing the spelling.

All help much appreciated.

Lisa

My grandfather, Jessie Sledge, and his brothers are in the picture. I am interested in getting a copy of the picture, I have very few picrures of him in his younger years.

I have marriage banns posted 27 Jan 1841 for Marie Aimee Vascocu with my great uncle Frederic Montier. Her parents in the church register are Jeann Baptiste, Andres Vascocu and Maria Faustino Chirino. In the 1850 Natchitoches census they are listed as Frederic and Emma Montier. Could those be two different names for the same woman?
I would love to exchange information.
There's not a mix up as far as I know. Maggie Ethel was already grown, married and out of house by the 1920 census, at least one of her siblings (Franklin) had also died by that time. Clara, Edna, Franklin, Alexander and Ethel were living in the household in the 1910 census and for whatever reason, Clarence was not listed in the household and Ray was not born until 1911. I've also confirmed this information with James and Sarah's granddaughter, who is still living.

Clarence Alton Thomas, son of James Jackson Thomas and Sarah E Ingram is one of 4 children; Clara, Alex G, Ray, and Clarence.

https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.2/MD8H-LWJ/p_413217193

I am sorry to be so long in answering your query. This is an email name that I don't use much anymore. Yes, Rosalie and your John were sister and brother, but I believe it was their great grandfather who was the immigrant. Rosalie married John Silas Woodel when she was about 16 and they were my ex-husband's grandparents. They have descendents all over north Louisiana.

Hi -
Coushatta was Coushatta Chute; it started as a point on the river for steamboats to refuel, etc. It was part of Natchitoches Parish prior to 1871. Red River Parish was formed from parts of Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, DeSoto and Natchitoches Parishes in 1871. Coushatta is the parish seat.

If you're related to the Wrens, Veatches, etc--check out this site:
http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/s/t/r/Diane-L-Str...

Happy hunting.

Hello! If you are related to the Wrens then you are related to me somehow. I found a second cousin right here in Dallas when I was doing genealogy. She is also related to the Wrens from there and she lived in Coushatta for a while. My great grandparents lived in Coushatta. If the family are Wrens and the town is Coushatta then it is definitely Red River Parish. I dont know what you may have found with a listing of Natchidoches but I am thinking there may have been some confusion on a cesus card or something. I do know that several of my own relatives lived in Coushatta but were in Natchidoches for a while due to enlisting in the Civil War.
My email is ishkamin@hotmail.com
Oh also in Coushatta there is a cemetery called the Wren Cemetery. Actually I think it is in Martin which is a little community outside of Coushatta.

Melissa Price

I have family born & lived in Coushatta, Red River Parish but have recently found several entries in the LDS Family Search site that list some persons born or married in Coushatta, , Natchitoches, Louisiana. I had found a reference to Coushatta Chute, as a part of Natchitoches Parish. Would that be the same as the town of Coushatta in Red River Parish?
Some of the family names are James Richard & Leona (Caston) Edmon, John Wesley Emerson's in-laws, Thomas Anderson Veatch & Margaret Atwood (Wren) Veatch.
Could someone please clarify this puzzle for me?
Thanks, c

Seidel and my daddy, Elria Thomas, were cousins and great friends. I have a lot of old negatives that I don't have pictures for, and I don't know who the pictures are of. The picture I have of Josie is of her alone. I don't remember Uncle Willard. Daddy took me to visit Uncle Felix when I was little, and we used to go to Seidel's house all the time. After Daddy got down, Seidel visited him all the time. I think that Seidel's sister lived in a little house near him. We visited her, too. I know that Daddy loaned my little woodburning stove to her - he said she needed it and I didn't - I used to collect all kinds of stuff like that, and I'd left it at his house. It was a pretty little thing, and looked just right for a lady. I don't know what happened to it after she died. I've had a stroke and my memory is not all that good. Seidel had a son or grandson who used to play guitar, and some member of their family lived on the main road where we turned in to Seidel's house. It's been a while since I've been back to Coushatta, but I bet I could still make that route of visits we used to do. Uncle Felix had a grist mill, and he used to give Daddy homeground cornmeal. Somebody else had a mule-drawn syrup mill, where he ground cane and made syrup. I loved seeing all of that. Daddy called him Uncle Felix, so we did, too; it's interesting to know how Josie and we were connected, and to understand the actual relationship. Daddy specifically told me Seidel was his cousin, so I know the title Uncle was not just being polite to an older person. He never went into who married who, as far as I remember, and I don't have information on Josie and Felix or early pictures.

Melissa Alabama's husband was William Taylor Thomas, son of W Phillip Thomas, who was son of Phillip Thomas - who was son of William M [1757-1845] and Ankey.Melissa California was Melissa A's daughter and my grandmother; my grandfather was Zara Zimmerman Thomas, who also traces back to William M and Ankey through their son John William. ZZ's mother was daughter of Robert Thomas and Eliz Stringer; Robert was also a son of William M and Ankey. I would really like to know if Felix Walker's middle name was Zenneman or Zimmerman - I've seen my grandfather's name written as Zenneman, and I know that's wrong. I wonder if Hosea Pickett was also a grandson of WIlliam M, through one of his daughters?

HI, I have a picture of Josie, I think. Josie was married to Uncle Felix [Zenneman] Walker. Josie was the daughter of George Washington Wren and Hattie Leon Thomas, daughter of William Taylor Thomas and Malissa Alabama Pickett. Hattie's sister, Malissa [Melissa] California Thomas first married a Pickett, I think, and then married my grandfather, Zara Zimmerman Thomas. William Taylor Thomas was the son of William Phillip Thomas and Axie Stringer. Malissa Alabama Pickett was the daughter of Hosier Pickett and MaryAnn Mercer. Hosey Wren was named for Hosier Pickett, I understand. The name "Stringer" was misspelled in one of the wills as "Stranger." I saw the "Zenneman" in one of the trees, and I wondered if that was correct. I have also seen my grandfather Zara Zimmerman Thomas' name written that way in other's records: it is incorrect.

Grandpa Seidel had a son named Mike that we called Uncle Buster that played a guiter and drove an 18 wheeler truck.. He was my dads youngest half brother... Aunt Blonde (Celeste) and Mama Josie lived in a house off the main road..I have so many wonderful memories of that place.. I can still smell the peaches when they were ripe, the old faucet with a ladle on the front porch for drinks... gathering eggs for breakfast..The little woodburning stove in the living room for heat.
Ankey Thomas Legg is Phillip Thomas and his wife Mary's daughter; granddaughter of William M and Ankey Thomas. I have her born May 1814 in SC, died Dec. 1888 in Vernon Parish LA. I have seen information on William M's Ankey's death in Upshur County Texas, with a list of property of "deceased Ankey Thomas," in the house of Wm Thomas. I would love to find her grave; she is supposed to be of Cherokee descent. However, I have also seen her name on another tree as "Anike." How much of the confusion is due to spelling problems, I just don't know. But my grandmother Melissa's name has been spelled at least 5 different ways.

"I need a kind soul to check the 1880 Census
of Red River Parish, La. on the MCGEE/MAGEE/MCGHEE
family for a P.H. McGee. He wed there in 1886
to Samantha Jane Lambert so he was likely adult
age in 1880. Any help would be great!"
Thanks
Pauline
in Florida

I found a marriage record for SJ Lambert to RH or OH McGee in Red River Parish in Aug 1886. I cannot determine who RH or OH McGee was but I suspect he was related to the William D and Wealthy Ellen (Kelly) McGee family.

I also found a marriage in Red River Parish for S J McGee to SL Sweeton in 1901. Could this have been the same person? Some of SJ McGee's children appeared in the 1910 census of Bienville Parish near Jefferson D McGee. HofH was Marion McGee.

I am researching John M Cotton & Nancy J. Thomas family. They had a daughter Ada born 2 Feb 1888 and married Jefferson Davis Mitchell 1908. I have a bit of info collected willing to share, looking for the name of John M's grandfather? I know his dad was James L, I am thinking it was William and Martha, but not sure. Also looking for James Cotton wife's name, maybe Haddie? James was born in 1825 Louisiana.
