I also have Assevedo in my ancestry. I do not have a Miguel, but there still may be a connection , just probably not a direct line. My 3g-grandfather was Pedro Assevedo born in 1805 in Louisiana. His father was Manual Assevedo. Manual was not born in the Canary Islands, but was born in Portugal, but he married a woman, Maria Josefa Torres, from the Canary Islands. So your Assevedo name could also go back to Portugal...
