I am interested in any and all information on my Grand Father "John Gorsha" who married to a "Mattie Williams" abt 1893 or 1894 in St. John The Baptiste Parish, Louisiana. They had a son "John Gorsha, Jr." born abt 1895 at Ruddock or Freniear, Louisiana (which no longer shows on the map) but was located on the west side of Lake Pontchatrain. The son, John, Jr. was given to a Picou family by his father to raise, after the mother abandoned them when the child was about a year old, who lived on Avoca Island (Avoca Plantation), St. Mary Parish, Louisiana. The 1900 Census indicates that he was 15 years at the time the census was taken and that he was born in May of 1895. The father John Gorsha was affilated with the Windecker family, a Mr. William Windecker of Ponchatoulas, Louisiana. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Please, time is not on my side!
P.S. The 1900 census spelled Picou "Pecot) and spelled my father's name "Gauche" for Gorsha.
