I am trying to find the father and some of the relatives of Godfrey Tatman. Oral tradition says that his father was white sail maker from England/New England. I have a photograph of him. Godfrey was born about 1850 and resided in St Landry Parish, Ward 5 as of the 1880 census. I cannot find him on any prior census.

His mother appears to have been Dinah Nicholas (Nichols). His half brothers were Joshua and Allen. Allen's son was Esau/Aesop. Joshua's daughter was named Gracie Nicholas Woolridge. Godfrey Tatman was married to Helene Ardoin b. 1859 (she was from Bayou Chicot and also had family in Ville Platte). Any information on St Peter slave quarters would help also. I was told that the Hayes family owned that plantation.

thanks,
