hi
I am interested in info about the plantation and familes that owned the plantation near Begg Station, north of Washington, St. Landry Parish, Louisiana on Bayou Boeuf and ner Bayou Courtableau. Dr. Louis Archibald Webb built the sugar plantation house (one source says 1849 another 1857) - he owned 84 slaves in the 1860 Slaveholder list - his widow married Mr. Gallagher and then the plantation passed to subsequent owners Payne, McDonald and Thistlethwaite families - The plantation was known by the names of Webb, Gallagher, Payne, Macland, and Woodland - some of the subsequent residents were Mr. J. U. Payner, Jr., Junior Taylor, and Mr. Moore who had two daughters - Willie Moore who married Horace Andrus and Lee Moore who married Allen Daniel ; their mother was a daughter of Dominique C. Sittig and Hermance "Mary" Chachere. Before marrying Mr. Moore, their mother was the wife of Gilbert Prud'homme and they had one son, William Prud'homme who married Sadie Dupuy. Gilbert Prud'homme was son of William of Prud'homme City, who was son of Michel Prud'homme of Opelousas.
