After reading your post, I was in the library and looking through the Source Records of Pike County, MS and saw reference to John and Abagail Pierce. John was born 1742 and his family was in Washington Parish, LA prior to 1812.
Part of Washington Parish was taken to later form Tangipahoa Parish.

His children and some of their spouses are listed. John P. Pierce, son of Augustus and Smithie Thigpen Pierce born 1834 married Samantha Blackwell. Let me know if this rings a bell.
