Carol, the only information I was able to find on either of them was
this reference in The New Orleans Item newspaper of 3/27/1902:
The following pensions have been granted: Louisiana - Adelia B. Hewett,
Hammond. There was no explanation as to what type of pension this was, but I remember my widowed grandmother receiving a monthly check from the state of Louisiana in the 1940s, so I suppose it was for widows who had no other income. It wasn't much.
