Father Donald Joseph Hébert, 57, pastor of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Roman Catholic Church in Mire, Acadia Parish, LA, died at his residence Tuesday, 22 Feb 2000. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Assumption Church Friday, 25 Feb 2000, at 10AM, with entombment in the church cemetery.
Father Hébert was ordained 1 Jun 1968 at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, Lafayette, LA, by Bishop Maurice Schexnayder.
Father Hébert's clerical assignments: 1968 - assistant pastor, St. John Francis Regis, Arnaudville, LA; 1970 - assistant pastor, St. Anthony, Eunice, LA; 1975 - pastor, St. Joseph, Cecilia, LA; 1980 - pastor, St. Anthony, Eunice, LA; 1984 - administrator, Annunciation, Duralde, LA; 1985 - pastor, Our Lady Queen of All Saints, Ville Platte, LA; and 1989 - pastor, Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mire, LA. Father Hébert served two terms on the diocesan school board and served as diocesan consultor for the Diocese of Lafayette.
Father Hébert was the compiler, author, and publisher of two series of volumes cataloging ecclesiastical and civil records: SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA RECORDS and SOUTH LOUISIANA RECORDS. Through Hébert Publications, Inc., Father Hébert also authored several definitive works on church parish histories and biographies of diocesan clergy.
