Farmer's name was definitely "Mills", not "Miles".
I'm fairly certain that Susannah Wood was not closely related to Matthew Wood, but I'm away from home right now and I'll have to check my references when I get back to be sure. Susannah was the daughter of William Wood, Sr., who lived in Mississippi in the first decade of the nineteenth century. The Woods moved to the Ouachita Valley between about 1810 and 1812, along with their married daughter, Susannah McGown. I don't know William Wood's origins beyond Mississippi, but his children are known and Matthew isn't William's son.
Mills Farmer and Susannah Wood are the second-oldest family of European origin to permanently settle in what later became Union Parish. They arrived there a quarter century before Colonel Matthew Wood did.
