OBIT
Last rites were conducted by the Rev. Muril Platt, Baptist Minister, for W.M. Williams, 64, who died at his home near Oak Grove Sunday following a long illness, Monday afternoon at the Williams residence on Bayou Macon front.
Burial was in Oak Grove cemetery with Walters-Dalrymple Funeral home in charge.
Active pallbearers were: William Shoemaker, Jimmie Summerlin, A.B. Steward, Bennie Lee Shoemaker, Robert Smith and Luther Brown.
His survivors include his wife, Carrie Mae Williams; five daughters, Mrs. Floyd Beck, Misses Lottie, Gertrude, Helen and Alice Williams, all of near Oak Grove; five sons, James, W.L., Richard, Thomas Roy and Herbert Williams, all of near Oak Grove; three sisters and four grandchildren.

I found this at the west carroll parish in the usgen web site. Ravan Cemetery is still there it's hard to find, you have to drive down a driveway into a cow pasture, about a 1/2 mile. You can see the cemetery from the road but you have to be looking hard. I was last there in 2006. You can e-mail me at buckarcher9925@yahoo.com and I will try to get you better directions.

Ravan cemetery location?

Can anyone tell me if Ravan cemetery on Bar-k road near Fiske Union is still in existence. Some of my Bonner ancestors are buried there and I'd like to take a drive up there to document it with some picures. My mom grew up in Oak Grove but she had never heard of it. Trying to make a connection between this John E. Sims and my James Elisha Sims b 1877 also in Hot Spring Co., AR. The two families were residents of Oak Grove. In 1930 John E., 38, is mgr of a grocery store in Oak Grove. His wife is Daisy D. with children John, Thomas R. and Sybil Ruth.

Maunde Zelle -- What does this mean?

Henry E. Pabst died in Carroll Parish, LA abt 1856. In his succession papers at the courthouse in Lake Providence, I found a document written in old German handwriting. It was a promissory note when he borrowed some money from his brother, John Christian Pabst. The Pabst brothers owned property in what is now the Midway area of Richland Parish, just East of Hwy 17.

The translator thought "Maunde Zelle" could refer to a place name. Is there any place in the area that this could be? How would it sound if it were pronounced?
The document starts" Maunde Zelle, January 20..."

Another phrase which she could not translate was "Berush of Karll." I am wondering if Henry attempted to write "Parish of Carroll."

Monticello comes to mind, but it was some distance from where the Pabst family lived.

I am looking for info on my great grandfather, Washington H Scarborough. I have him in 1900 West Carrol census, 70 years of age, Ward 5...he dissappears after that. He was born in 1836 in Alabama; evidently lived the last 30 years or so of his life in West Carrol Parish. One son, Robert L, and one daughter, Mary. Wife was also Mary, died sometime about 1880.

I think, but am not positive, the Alfred W. who filed the land patents was the son of Robert P and Jane E. Jones. Robert P, his son Robert Byron and son Alfred W are all found in La in 1860. Robert P and Alfred in Carrol Parrish and Robert B in Catahoula. Robert P and Robert B were in Atalla, Ms in 1850 coming there from Madison Co.,AL...My Alfred W married Eleanor Floyd, widow of Marzamine M Floyd. Eleanor and Marzamine are on the 1850 census in Carrol Parrish.

My husbands father was born in Lake Charles, LA to Harry L. Fleming and (I cant remember her first name)See Fleming. He had one sister, June Fleming. They moved to San Antonio, TX sometime in the '30's or '40's where he established a pharmacy near downtown S.A.

That is all I know about his side of the family. I have no idea where the family originated before Lake Charles.

OAK GROVE — Laura Vining East, owner of Carter East Store, died Tuesday. Services are 10 a.m. Friday at Cox Funeral Home, Oak Grove. Visitation is 5-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery

my mother was a aaron her mame was geraldine she married huey vining. my grandfather was (dub) (J.W.) JAMES WILLIAM AARON FROM GOODWILL ,LA. IN WEST CARROLL PARISH.HE HAS PASSED BUT HIS WIFE IS STILL THERE IN OAKGROVE HER NAME WAS OLLIE MAE ANDERS SHE IS IN A NURSING HOME IN OAKGROVE.

I have an additional question regarding death certificates. Do any of the online sources show the cause of death? Or do I need a hardcopy for that field? I'm researching an illness that is very prevalent in my paternal line and would like to find the reason for death for earlier family members whose cause of death is unknown to me. Thanks.

I have no information on your Roberts family history, but I am interested in the Fleming part of your name. My Great Grandfather John R. A. Fleming, moved from Marengo County, Alabama to Carroll Parish LA (now West Carrol) where he and his wife later died. I am wondering if there is any connection.

Do any of you know how I might obtain copies of death certificates from 1942 and 1945 on people who died in West Carroll Parish? Everything I have read so far indicates that it is impossible to obtain these from the State of La. for genealogical purposes. I'd appreciate some help or suggestions. Thank you!
