One more thing re Mavis James Brown Sr., I was told he had a son, James Anthony Brown born about 1940 and a daughter, Clarice Brown with his first wife (before he married Evelyn). I can't even find marriage info for any of this.

I just now saw this post. My first husband's mother's name was M. Evelyn McClure. They had two children: Mavis James Brown, Jr. born 1943, and Linda Sue Brown born 1946. Anything you can tell me about Mavis James Brown, Sr. would be appreciated, since he was my son's birth grandfather.
What little I do know is that he had been in the Navy. Thank you, Wanda

That would lead one to believe it was in Bienville Parish, wouldn't it? Have you tried posting this on the Bienville Parish board?

It's possible that Hope was the name of a plantation in that area, and that a small community kept the name for a while.

Circa 1915, was there ever a place (village, town, city, parish, ??) with the name of HOPE? I have a couple of relatives whose place of birth is this Hope, LA. I searched for parishes and town names through LA gov page without success.

I found Good Hope, Hopedale, and Hope Villa.

Thanks!

PS: Father lived in Ringgold, Bienville, LA in 1913 and on his WWI card listed Bienville Parish, LA 1917-1918. Maybe this helps you?

ALSO, ON THEIR PASSPORT IT SAID THEY LIVED IN ST. ANDRE DE CUBZAC. ANY INFO WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

THANK YOU

The only marriage records that I know that are online are the ones for Orleans Parish (New Orleans), and they're not listed there.

If they didn't come to New Orleans to get married, I'd guess they stayed close to the base. Fort Polk army base is in Vernon Parish. Their Clerk of Court's website says you can do research in person, but also provides the link to the Vernon Historical & Genealogical Society which does lookups.

http://www.vernonhgshistory.org/

One of Jean Henri Vicknair's children, Henriette Vicknair, wife of Ernest Alexandre, was my great grandmother. I have some information about Henriette; however, no pictures. Also, would anyone happen to know how she and Ernest met? For some reason my mom Dazie Cambre Duhe' (Henriette's granddaughter) never spoke too much about her grandparents. They were hard workers busy earning a living and taking care of their family, and for some reason didn't have photos, stories, etc. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks, hopefully working together we can find June and Williams' parents. I find it interesting that Joseph, Julius and William were in WW2 at the same time. There was also a David C. and Dewey H. Salvant. I did find out that there was a Pierre Salvant a free man who had a plantation and owned slaves. I would love to know why the Salvants migrated to Mississippi. I saw also that the stats on where they lived the majority was Louisiana then Missisppi.

Im not sure if there was a George Salvant, but I did read a story were the was a Salvant male, who moved to Ohio and had his own business there until he passed away. I can definitely tell from looking at the picture of Agnes she was definitely related to my Grandfather. I looks like they have the same skin tone and the same nose and eyes. My Grandfather had gray/greenish eyes. I think that William Sr. Parents would have been born in like the late 1840s-1850s. I wish there was a way to know for sure. I'll see if I can find anything.

Would that be Jean Pierre Savant/Salvant born 1896? Then there was Patureau/Pierre Salvant father Juan Salvant and Mari Luisa Lambre. Also, there was Jean Salvant who married Florentine Soulant in 1849. Jean's parents were Jean Salvant and Rosalie Daubard. I've got to revisit this lineage. There was also a George Salvant born 1878 in la. He too lived in Pass Christian, later moved to Ohio where he died in 1928. His parents were Ralph and Rose Salvant. Any mention of a George in your family? Here are pictures of William Salvant jr. and my grandmother Agnes Salvant Snaer.

I was looking to see who was Julius Sr. Parents the only thing I could find was Julius Salvant and it didn't list a DOB or death or who he was married to. I did hear about our heritage. My aunt told me that there were two twin brothers from France who settled in Louisiana/Mississippi? One married an African woman and the other married a French/Caucasian woman, so that's how you get the white and black Salvants. Im not sure how true the story is but that's all I know as far as that's concerned maybe if you have a copy of a birth certificate that may help.

Most of my family if not all were baptized there, married there and funeral services held there. This church holds alot of family history.

There were many Watson's in Pass Christian. My great aunt Georgia Salvant married Edward Watson. Edward and my grandfather Harry were brothers. What was/is your mother's father name? Sounds like my mother and your grandfather were/is cousins and your mother is my cousin. My mother is still living she is 88 yrs. old. I'm still looking for William Sr.'s parents names.
I was searching and I found out there were 2 William Salvants, one was born in 1867 and the other was born 1915. Also the William Salvant that was born in 1915 had 7 sisters, he was the only boy. There names were Ellen, Mary, Louisa, Agnes, Adela, Rebecca (Selena), and Virginia. By the way does Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church keep family records?

Also, I have found a Jean Salvant born 1840-1872 wife Rose.
They had two sons Roselius and Jean. Rose later moved to Pass Christian. She lived close to my great grandfather's home. I'm still researching the connection between these two families. So far everything point to them moving from Placquemine Parish Louisiana to New Orleans then to Pass Christian. Julius's family and William's lived very close to each other. Most families lived close by. Our Mother of Mercy in Pass Christian holds alot of information. I'm going to see what I can find from them as well.

I am related to a Jean Marie Salvant, b. 1789, d. 1830, married to a Marie Josephine Veillon. They lived in Plaquemine Parish, LA. Where in France he came from I have not been able to trace, but there are a lot of Salvants around Brive la Gaillarde in SW France.Notably a Jean-Claude Salvant who has a restaurant on the family farm in Colonges la Rouge just SE of Brive. I have been able to trace Jean Maries's progeny for 6 generation down to my family of origen. I have some family stories, but not much of a paper trail since the courthouse in Plaquemines was raized during the Civil War and information from that area is hard to come by. But, I am willing to share with anyone what I know if you contact me at jsalvant@verizon.net.
