I'm researching the family of my great grandmother, Martha Powers Johnson (b. 20 Aug 1861), daughter of Daniel Johnson (b. 23 Jan 1827, d. 15 Sep 1867) and Paulina Jane (Barbour) Johnson (b. 25 Sep 1837, d. 04 Nov 1866) of Deer Isle. Both parents died young, leaving a family of young children: Martha, Benjamin, Nathan and Edmund.

A family story says that Daniel died by freezing to death, which seems unlikely given his September death. The story also says that the children (ages 3 to 6 at the time of Daniel's death) were raised by relatives.

Daniel and Paulina came from large families, and I'm having trouble finding out who raised them. Any help on this or anything else related to the Johnsons of Deer Isle, Maine would be appreciated!
