Looking for church records related to Ephraim Pray, b near Augusta in 1809. He became the founder of Douglas County Georgia in 1871. Apprenticed to an engineer, he became a civil engineer at about age 18 and migrated to Greene and Handcock Counties of Georgia where he built a bridge, mill, house and other structures at Skull Shoals. He formed a Baptist Church in his Georgia community (Pray's Mill Baptist Church – still active) but his “home church” in Maine would not transfer his “letter” because he had become a slave owner. At some church near Augusta there has to be a record of his request or that he was “dismissed from fellowship” from a church in/near Augusta about 1840-1845. there might also be baptismal or birth records.
