As the origional post states: The 1860 Federal Mortality Schedule shows he died in July 1859. Originally I thought that the cause of death had been "suicide by poison" though now I am wondering if it says "suicide in prison" its tough to tell with the handwriting. Either way it'd be interesting to discover what the situation may have been.
