I'm trying to establish a link between my family in the midwest (Iowa and Minnesota) and the Jabez (b. 9 SEP 1814) and Roxanna (Briggs b. 1810) Sawyer family of Sumner, Oxford, Maine.

Specifically, I'm trying to confirm that Philip L. Sawyer (b. abt 1846) was their son and that he moved with his wife Mary to Onawa, Monona, Iowa.

There is some theoretical evidence in the 1880 US Census of Philip L. Sawyer in Iowa (though his birthplace is listed first as NE then Mass in the margin. Mary's birthplace is listed as Maine). The 1895 Iowa census lists a Philip L. Sawyer with a slightly inaccurate age compared to 1880 and 1850 census listings who was born in Maine. Both 1880 and 1895 census entries list Philip L. in Onawa, Monona, Iowa.

To add to the intrigue, Philip L in 1850 census had a younger brother named Edward E. (b. abt 1848) and Philip L. in Iowa had a son named Edward E. in the 1880 census.

I know this is all a bit thin so I'm hoping someone might have a detail or two that might help me confirm.

Many Thanks,

Jason Sawyer
