I am looking for anyone with information on my Bateman family from Charles County, Maryland. My great grandmother was Sarah Ann Bateman b. Oct 1865 d. April 27, 1905. Sarah was the daughter of James Henry Bateman and June E. Bateman. (maiden name unknown) James Bateman was born about 1821 in Maryland, I assume in Charles County.

Based mostly from census reports I have a few assumptions. I believe that James is the brother of Benjamin T. Bateman. The 1850 census shows Benjamin T. Bateman 28 yrs old as head of household. James 26 yrs old, is living in the house along with a 51 yr old Mary Bateman, (perhaps their mother) a 24 yr old Mary Bateman, (a sister?) a 2 yr old Emily Bateman (no idea who she belongs to) and a 6 yr old Mary Burroughs. (no idea who she is either) The next family on the census page is Charles Bateman, (a brother?) his wife Mary, a 4 month old baby girl listed as Infant and a 21 yr old Wm. Bateman (another brother?)

I can't find James Bateman anywhere in the 1860 census however in 1870 I find J.H. Bateman 49 yrs old, his wife E.J. Bateman and their daughters, M.E. Bateman 9 yrs old and S.A. Bateman (my great grandmother) 6 yrs old. This family is living next to B.T. Bateman 50 yrs old, C. Bateman, (Benjamins wife) and children E.F. Bateman 8 yrs old, M.L. Bateman 5 yrs old, L.A. Bateman 4 yrs old (all daughters) and one son, John Bateman 2 yrs old.

The 1880 census has Henry Bateman 48 yrs old, his wife June E. Bateman, daughter Sarah 16 yrs old and Elizabeth June a 5 month old granddaughter. There is no sign of M.E. Bateman from the 1870 census and I have no idea who the mother of Elizabeth June could be.

I have also found a Gustavus Bateman b. abt 1788 d. abt 1841 and based on the information from the 1840 census I speculate that he could be the father of Benjamin T. and James Henry Bateman.

Do any of these names look familiar? Anyone with information that could help me verify my assumptions would be greatly appreciated.
