Re: Edward Ross, Jr circa 1711-?

I believe my ancestor Abraham Ross (probably born in the 1730s), who married Jannetje Van Der Beek (a descendant of the Dutch settlers of New Amsterdam), may be a son of Edward Ross, Jr., although I am yet to prove it. Abraham and Jannetje had a daughter Sarah Ross, who married William Rippeth of Queen Anne's County, Maryland. William served in the Revolutionary war, after which he and Sarah Ross moved west. Their daughter Sarah Rippeth grew up in Carroll County, Ohio, where my paternal family lived until my father's generation. I would love to collaborate and try to prove my connection. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Holt Family

I am looking for any information on the Elizabeth Holt that married James Spence, Sr in Dorchester County sometime in 1769. Elizabeth Holt had a son Alexander before she married James Spence. Her son Alexander to the Spence name as his own. He would have been my 4th great grandfather. I am trying to find out if Holt was a married name for Elizabeth or was it a maiden name. If it is a maiden name then I need to find Alexander's real father's name. Our family thought we were Spences but it looks like we are not. I am trying to find out for my family just what family we are. Please feel free to email me at teacheriam@verizon.net.
Thanks for any help, Marilyn Spence McMillan

Was fascinated to read all the posts re the Duke of Gumby plaque. We have just been contacted by a friend who has found the same plaque in an attic in Lincoln, Lincolnshire, UK. Initially he thought he had found something unique and of value, but now seems somebody has been having a big laugh with these. Wonder how they have been distributed so far around the world? Would love to receive any more information. Please email me at lynnmariegledhill@hotmail.com

I recently acquired an old Family Bible. The condition of the Bible was very poor, but I rescued the Family info pages from it before I tossed the rest. The family is Hambleton/Winchester from Talbot County. If interested, please email me at klaf@dmv.com.

Kari Andrew Farnell

Henry A. Cooke, 1797-1868, Dorchester Co.

I am researching the Cooke family (Cook's Point) extending back to the 1600s. Henry's father, Henry Sr. served in the militia, along with three of his brothers, during the War of Independence, 1776-1783. He married Elizabeth Ratcliff in April 1785 and Henry A. was born 16 May 1797. Apparently, Elizabeth died soon after the birth and Henry Sr. married Margaret Bennent 28 January 1799.
I would like to find any other records for Elizabeth & Margaret. I would also like to find records of their other children. Henry A. lived the last 30yrs. of his life in Baltimore, but is buried at Gethsemane Methodist Church, Madison, Dorchester County.

I also checked the 1910 Census. I found no Albert Bradford listed for Dorchester County. There are no Bradfords listed for the Vienna District in 1910............. There are only 6 families listed, and all of them are in either in Dist #6 -- Hoopers Island, District #5 -- Lakes District, or District #10 -- Straits District ......

He also is not listed in the 1920 Census either, so you can presume he came to Dorchester County sometime between 1920-1930, but before April 8, 1930, when is the date the household enumeration was taken.

Hope this helps also.....

I just looked at the 1930 Census for Dorchester County. It shows an Albert Bradford listed as living in Vienna, Age 30, born in New York. This is probably your Albert you are looking for.

He can be found as follows:
BRADFORD, ALBERT (1930 U.S. Census)
MARYLAND , DORCHESTER, VIENNA 3-DIST
Age: 20, Male, Race: BLACK, Born: NY
Series: T626 Roll: 873 Page: 44

I believe from this information you may find that he is of no relation to the Bradfords that you are researching.

He is listed as a boarder at the home of Milfred D. and Effie Murphy, along with another boarder, Willby Higgins.

If you would like a digital copy of this census page, drop me a line at my email address.....

Hope this helps
