Classification: Query
Surnames: KREGER, CREGER, CREAGER, KRIEGER
I am doing a systematic search of the counties in western Maryland, northeast West Virginia, and northwest Virginia for my ancestor Jacob Creger, Sr. The home page for Garrett County contains "Deakin's list of Settlers (1787)" which I have reviewed and found reference to "Jacob Kreger 5/"3598-99". There was no explanation what the numbers following the name represented, and I am curious what it means. Also, I would like to put out a general plea for anyone that might have information on the KREGER, CREGER, CREAGER, KRIEGER surname to contact me. I have tracked Jacob Creger, SR. back to Tuscarawas County, OH, which he moved to in 1810. I have a couple of leads that indicate he may have moved from Hampshire County, WV, but now I see this Deakin's list and the proximity of Garrett County is intriguing. Jacob Creger, Sr. was born approximately 1763, in what was listed on Ohio census records as "VA". His children were Peter, John, Henry, Jacob Jr., and two daughters, all listing "Virginia" as their birthplace (between 1793 and 1810). Any help would be appreciated.
