Hello,
I will email you at the address you indicated. I have been working on trying to sort out the Lowman/Lorman family lines. They are (as other lines I've researched before) prolific with an unfortunate tendency to choose their children's names from a very small pool of given names.
This really becomes confusing when you ended up with three or four people, round the same age, living in the same area!
I do have a Matthias in the lines I'm researching, but he showa up in 1843 in New Castle. His father Charles died in Cecil Co., MD, so there's one MD connection. I'll email ASAP and we can discuss this more.
Barb

Michelle, I forgot to mention that I have other photos that I managed to save that my Great-grandmother had taken. Some of them have no names but I have saved them anyway.
Great-grandmother's parent were James Henry Vanzandt and Eleanor Booth from Delaware. They were not originally from MD but came from area of New Castle, DE. I have a photo which I believe is James but I cannot prove it. What I do have that is verifiable is a photo of Uncle John Booth (Eleanor's brother) that was probably taken around 1900 or right before-or sooner. My great-grandmother had alot of brothers and several sisters. Uncle Harry, Uncle Sparks, Uncle Jim, Aunt Eva and Aunt Mary plus Aunt Cora Edwards who lived in Rock Hall. I am attaching another file for you.

Hi Michelle, I grew up in Rock Hall. My great-grandmother was Uncle Sparks sister. Her name was Sarah Margaret Vanzandt Hyland born Oct 2, 1876. I have a picture of Uncle Sparks with several of the Vanzandt brothers and some friends from Piney Neck taken by my Great-grandmother in the mid 1930's. Uncle Sparks was standing in the back row dead center in photo. One of the elderly men in the picture was Wesley Coleman's grandfather who had served in the Union Army during the Civil War. Unfortunately, he was not in uniform. If you are interested I will enclose the photo as a file so that you can see it. Regards, Anna Schnellbacher

Yes, everyone knew Ms. Pearl Vansant as she ran the store in Piney Neck for a number of years. I have pictures of the store, and it had a gas station. We were sad to see it go. Before it was gone a couple of other owners had it, including my grandparents- Esther "Coleman" Crouch Easton and her 2nd husband Bill Easton, who had Easton's Siding and Roofing Company. My Aunt Judy was the clerk for a time in her 20's.

I am looking for a Benjamin Start(t) who was a farm hand on the George Dill farm in 1880 and was 48 yrs old. He is not in "TOMBSTONING..." or in the State Archive index. A long shot possibility is to contact the Fellows, Helfebein and Newman funeral home, which has a location in Millington. I know they do burials in that cemetery because they did my grandmother's funeral. Their e-mail is millington@fhnfuneralhome.com. They might know who holds all records, and if you find out, I'd like to know, too.

If you're just looking for a relative with a gravestone there, let me know, I have volume 5 of the "Tombstoning in Kent County, Maryland" book and will look up someone for you.

Yes I'm very interested. I also haqve nothing on Polly Bates other than she was Upton's wife. I have been pouring over passenger lists looking for the Kings. There are a great many to check out.
Here is something else to ponder. When I was a teenager in the late 50's I remember asking my father where we came from. He said that we came from Chelsea, England and before that from Danzig, when it was a country. I never asked any more nor have I attempted to check any of it out. If you want to make direct contact, my email is dking61@comcast.net.I have a cd made for the LDS church PA5 software, if you want a copy. I have nearly 600 names on it.

I am on the direct link from Upton King. I have all the links from him to date. The rumor I have heard was that Upton's father came from Ireland as a teenager and landed in the Baltimore area. It has also been suggested that the teenager was from Tipperary. With the exception of the time frame, the names I found will basically fit. Itmay be possible to contact some Kings in Ireland and ask some questions. Maybe someone wrote home back then, or even returned.
Where are you physically located?

I also am a decendent of Upton. Check this: There were two Kings on the St. George(English Ship) that sailed from Waterford, Ireland in 1677 adn landed in Baltimore in 1678. On Nov 1, 1687 a Mr John Quigley , Captain, applied for land grants for 180 passengers in Maryland. The King passengers were John King and Arthur King
Source:Maryland State Archives.
Which one of his children are you descended from? The information you provided is quite interesting. The original Baltimore Port (1687) you mention is located within the present borders of Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. The port silted in within 75 years of its founding and shipping was moved west to Joppa (Baltimore II) and finally to its present site, Baltimore III. Only a few foundations remain at the site. Either John or Arthur could be an ancestor of Upton but since he was born about 1795 I'm pretty sure that a number of generations would have passed between the candidates you listed and Upton. My latest clue is a marriage event between a Keziah Upton and a John King in Anne Arundle Co. MD. A census event lists Keziah as living near the Eastern Branch of Rock Creek which is within the present boundaries of Washington DC and thus not too far from Georgetown. The division of MD counties into their descendant counties is a study in itself and areas of northern DC were at one time part of Anne Arundle, Montgomery and Frederick counties. I know that Keziah Upton link is a stretch but I haven't found anything else yet. I've contacted some King family researchers from the DC area and while there were some large estates north of the city owned by Kings I've not been successful in finding a link to Upton.

I am looking for a Benjamin Startt who is working at the George Dill farm in 1880, when he is 48 years old. At that time the location is called Charlestown but is in KENT county. The State Archive does not appear to cover the period 1880 to about 1905; are those records still at the courthouses? Am looking for the death between 1880 and 1900 of a Benjamin Startt who in 1880 was working on the farm of George Dill in Charlestown KENT County; all I find now is a road named Charlestown in Kent and a town in Cecil County by that name. My person had siblings but a lot of them died young and they are not from the central line of the family so will be a little obscure. Thanks for your interest and support. I did the Coronado Bridge which is pretty far up and have seen movies showing the 5 mile bridge. I am more put off by rural plank bridges in swampy country!
