Thanks so much for your prompt reply. I lived most of my life in Maryland, but moved to Montana abt 5 years ago. I try to get back once or twice a year and cram as much research in as possible when I do. I'm at a bit of roadblock lately with my research and was hoping for any suggestions someone might have.
The family I am looking for clues on the PEUGH/PUGHs: Uriah H Peugh (b 1826 in MD) married Mary Ellen Duvall (b abt 1830) 26 Jun 1849. Uriah is my g-g-g-grandfather on my mother's side.
I have a land record showing an Indenture in 1848. He shows up in the 1850 census but I can't find any of the family in the 1860 census, and in 1870 the family seems to have scattered. I assume that Uriah passed during that period.
Son Samuel T Peugh (1849-bef 1899) marries Emily J.R. Purdum (she's buried at the nearby Purdum family cemetery on Watkins road). He remarried Elsie M Watkins a cousin of his first wife on her mothers side.
Both of the children from S.T. Peugh's first marriage married Burdettes: Marietta/Mamie marries William Hampton Burdette. Jennie Peugh marries Oscar W Burdette. Oscar dies suddenly of influenza in 1919 and Jennie is so despondent that she sends the kids to school a few months later and hangs her self at their home in Burdette (story attached).
Son David S Peugh (1854-1942) marries Sallie Poole (1841-1895) in 1872 and then Margaret Catherine Willhide in 1905. He settles in the Poplar Springs/Lisbon area. His 3 daughters all married Duvalls and his son Uriah Washington Peugh marries a Warfield.
I know a lot less about other son Benj. Franklin Peugh, but there are land records associated with him until 1900.
There's a family of Peugh/Pughs centered in Goshen, that I am fairly sure are related in some way, but have yet to find a firm connection.
Most of my research is online from Montana, but I plan on visiting the area in late Feb and hope to dig up some more leads. I'm thinking local church records might be the best next step. Anyway - I hope I have NOT overloaded you with details. I appreciate any thoughts you might lend to my search.
THANK YOU.
