Cornelius Manning, Jr. did not marry Jane Brooke. That marriage information is erroneous.
HIs first marriage was to Elizabeth Dansey, 1737. I am a descendant of that marriage.
His second marriage was to Jane Ford in 1757/1758.
In a deposition, Cornelius Manning is judged for marrying Elizabeth Dansey for the property rights of "Broadneck." He had the property in 1737, so this is probably when he married her when she was 17 years of age.
Data on the Dansey family is from the Manning Papers, MS1233, Maryland Hall of Records, Annapolis, MD. This traces the ownership of "Radnor" and "Broad Neck" from John Dansey to his brother, Robert Dansey and eventually to his heir, Elizabeth.
From the above papers, it appears that in 1716, property known as "Radnor" and "Broadneck" was "devised" by John Dansey to his brother, Robert Dansey. After the death of Robert, John Shercliffe took possession of that part of the resurvey of "Radnor" claiming it as the heir at law of the original grantee of "Broad Neck" and conveyed the property in 1723 to a Samuel Boyd, who conveyed to Cummings, who conveyed to Cornelius Manning, Jr.
By 1737, it seems that it was resolved that the real owner of this property was Elizabeth Dansey, daughter of Robert Dansey. According to Mary Manning Combs, Cornelius was courting Elizabeth but no one thought that he would have her. A Robert Grason is reported to have sent for Cornelius and asked him if he intended to marry her or not. Grason told him if he did not marry her, someone else would and he would surely loose his land that he now holds under the right of Shercliffe for Elizabeth Dansey is the true heir to it, and with that Cornelius married in a short time to Elizabeth Dansey and she always understood that it was to secure his own land.
From the same source comes a deposition of Elizabeth Peek, aged 74, circa 1775, "it was the common fireside talk of the neighbors that he, Cornelius Manning had married her only with a view of saving his land..."

Wow, What a gREAT story!
(I got the Jane Brooke from O'Roukes "Manning" chapter and he admits that it is a weak link attributed to the tradition of descent in the Calvert family)
Below are the archived postings between J. Clark, L. Reno, and S. Caldwell but I didn't have much in the way of sources.- so I set it aside to check into later I was working on Abell side. Anyone with progress on this?
My grandfather James Abell Mills book, (below mentioned by L. Reno on her posting) mentions the old family bible record that was copied from the original record by Joseph P. Mills 1824) and from his list by James I Mills (1867)and in the possession of Perry Mills (1839-1909) and Della Mills Mattingly (1869-1935) Alas, I have not been able to track down her children Josephine, Leonard, Alphonsus or Ernest or their children to see if this record still exists.
In the meantime do you have the sources that link offspring of Cornelius, Jr. and Dansey or Ford, namely "Mary" was the Manning that married Ignatius (my ancestor) ? Or to disprove that and that James Manning was her father? With James and Cornelius as named sons of Ignatius, could the older Cornelius and James be brothers and therefore one was the uncle?
I only have Thomas Manning (?-1671) in MD archives sessions biography naming sons John, Thomas and Nathaniel.
See my comments/questions in posting with icons <|:o
Many of the marriage records of the children of Ignatius Mills and Mary Manning can
be found in Thompson's Kentucky Catholic Pioneers, The Rolling Fork Settlement.
(Most of my references are packed up since I'm in the process of moving). Thompson
lists Mary Manning (ref 1052 in Thompson's book) as a daughter of Cornelius Manning
. He references pages 35 and 41 of James Abell Mill's book published in 1936. Does
anyone have a copy of this book or know where to find it? ..<|:o I have several copies and a complete .txt transcript if anyone needs passages.

2. Allavisa "Louise" Mills (ref 472 in Thompson's book and stated as a daughter of Ignatius and Mary) married Richard Fenwick on November 6, 1806 by Father Charles
Nerinckx. She died February 19, 1842 in Union County, Kentucky. ..<|:o Yep.

January 14, 1829 in Washington County, KY. ..<|:o Left Marion county- address unknown in book.
4. John H. Mills married Mary Hayden Mattingly on August 12, 1812 in Washington

8, 1814 in Washington County, KY. He died December 12, 1877 in Marion County, KY.
..<|:o Charly and Billy mentioned as bachelor sons and a daughter "Aviella, or some similar name"
6. "Ann" Nancy Mills (ref 1054 in Thompson's book) married James Mills (who are
his parents?). I have that she died 1893 in Nodaway County, Missouri. ..<|:o No. she never married. I have her prayer card- died Feb 24, 1893 at "aged 99, 11 mo, 24 days"

---Sandy Caldwell states that Mary Manning, dau. of James Manning and Margaret
Fenwick married Ignatius Mills on 11/4/1781 in St. Mary's Co. They moved to
KY where Ignatius died before 11/26/1826 in Washington Co. He was born
11/16/1758 in SMC.
James Manning and Margaret Fenwick did have a daughter named Mary Manning,
baptized 9/17/1765 at St. Andrew's Episcopal who was living at the time of
her father's will:
Will of James Manning, SMC, planter 5/4/1768-6/18/1768. Son: William, 151
ac. "Revell's" where I now live. Son: John, "Taunton Dean", 40 ac. and

Wit: Ignatius Jarboe, Henry Wimsatt, carpenter and James Pike.
Colonial Settlers of St. Clement's Bay by Mary Louise Donnelly who states
that Mary Manning, wife of Ignatius Mills, was the dau. of Cornelius
Manning.
Cornelius Manning, Jr. (son of Cornelius Manning and first wife, Mary
Wiseman) also had a daughter named Mary Manning, b. bef. 1757 by his first
wife, Elizabeth Dansey (his second wife was Jane Ford). Or is this correct?
Will of Cornelius Manning, SMC 8/2/1764-9/3/1764. Son: John, negro Charles

SMC Beaverdam Manor by Donnelly who states that Mary Manning was the dau. of
Jane Ford Greenwell and that she married Philip Greenwell and had no
children. I disagree.
Jane Ford had two children by Cornelius Manning, Jr.: Monica Manning,
baptized October 26, 1759 (m. William Fenwick) and Frances Manning, baptized
January 10, 1762 (m. Henry Hill). Both girls baptized at St. Andrew's Epis.
Jane Ford, dau. of John Ford (d. 1765) m. first, Ignatius Greenwell, Jr.

Note that Jane (Ford) Greenwell/Manning/Smith names only daughters Monica
(Manning) Fenwick and Frances (Manning) Hill. She didn't name any of her
Greenwell children, but then she apparently survived most, if not all of them.
Donnelly also stated that Mary Manning was the daughter of Jane Ford and that
she m. Philip Greenwell and had no children. I can find no Philip Greenwell
that fits the bill.
Donnelly stated that Ann Elizabeth Manning, sister of Mary, was also the
daughter of Jane Ford. Well, that's a problem. She was having children by
1763. Cornelius Manning didn't marry Jane Ford until 1757-1758 (Ignatius
Greenwell didn't die unti 1757).
What has me on the fence on this (but I have placed this Mary as the daughter of
James Manning and Margaret Fenwick) is that you're showing a son named
Cornelius, but then again the first son was named James.
Can anyone confirm the names of these children? I've never seen this bible
record before.
