*"Whereas Joseph Johnson having departed this life some years and
before his death made and published his Last Will and Testament and in said Will devised to his grandson, James W. Bowling a certain tract of land supposed to contain about 50 acres, first giving to Monica Bowling, mother of the said James W. Bowling a Life Estate in said 50 acres of land and at her death to go to said James W. and whereas the said Monica Bowling and her husband William Bowling did on the 16th day of September 1837 execute to John B. Whelan a bond to convey to said Whelan a deed for said land when the said James W. Bowling should arrive at the age of twenty one years and the said John B. Whelan having assigned said bond to Elizabeth Doyle and whereas the said Monica Bowling having departed this life now this indenture made between James W. Bowling of Davis Co and State of Indiana of the one part and Elizabeth Doyle of the County of Washington and State of Kentucky of the other part witnesseth that the said James W. Bowling for and in consideration of the premises and for the further consideration of one hundred and seventeen dollars and 82 1/2 cents to him in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged and has this day granted, bargained and sold and by these present doth grant bargain sell and convey unto her the said Elizabeth Doyle all the right, title, interest and claim whatever he the said James W. Bowling has or devised by the said Last Will and Testament of the said Joseph Johnson, dec'd to said land which land situated in the County of Washington on Cane Run waters of the Beech Fork and adjoining the land of Thomas Craycroft Sen'r, Richard Berry, John B. Montgomery dec'd land, James Hinton and others and supposed to contain fifty acres more or less. To have and to hold to her the said Elizabeth Doyle her heirs and the said James W. Bowling covenants to and with the said Elizabeth Doyle that he will warrant and forever defend the title to said land against all claims whatever.
In witness whereof the said James W. Bowling has hereto set his name and affixed his seal the 29th day of March 1845. " James W. Bowling seal

Booker clerk of county court for the County aforesaid do certify that on the day of the date hereof this deed from James W.Bowling to Elizabeth Doyle was acknowledged before me by the said James W. Bowling to be his act and deed whereupon siad deed togehter with this certificate hath been duly admitted to record in Deed book F, page 499. Given under my hand this 29th day of March 1846 W. B. Will of William Canter 7 Jun 1798 ~ 10 Sept 1798

In the name of God Amen, I William Canter of Charles County Maryland being weak in body but of sound mind and perfect memory thanks be to God do make constitute and appoint, this my last will and Testament in manner and form following to wit: Imprimis, I recommend my soul to God, trusting in his Infinite mercy through the merits of Jesus Christ as to my body, I desire that it be decently buryed at the discretion of my executor herein after named and after my debts and funeral charges are paid I give and bequeath as follows:
Item I give bequeath and devise to my grandson William Hickey that part of a tract of land on which I now live to him and his heirs and assigns forever.
Item I give and bequeath undo my grandson William Hickey Negro David of Negro George to him and his heirs and assigns forever Item, I give and bequeath unto my said grandson William Hickey my youngest horse 1 cow and calf one bed and furniture, one looking glass and one chest to him and his heirs and assigns forever Item, I give and bequeath unto my granddaughter Susana Lyon, one Negro girl names Sally one horse one bed and furniture one cow and calf one chest one looking glass to her, her heirs and assigns forever.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Jane Lyon Negro Cesar and negro Harry and one cow and calf to her and her heirs and assigns forever Item, I give and Bequeath unto my son James Canter one negro man name Nace to him his heirs and assigns forever Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Ann Hickey one negroe named Robert and one negro girl named Milley, with her future increase one cow and calf, to her and her heirs and assigns forever Item, I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Susana Moran one negro man named Watt and one negro girl named Phillas and one cow and calf to her and her children and should it please God that my said daughter Susana Moran should die without issue then the said negroes Watt and Phillas to return to the lawful heirs of my body to be equally divided Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Elizabeth Canter two negro girls one Minty and the other named Terry and one Bed and furniture one cow and calf one chest and one oval table and one tea kettle to her and her children forever.
Item I give and bequeath to my son in law Gabriel Moran the sum of five shillings current money of Maryland. And lastly, I do hereby constitute and appoint the aforesaid James Canter my son to be executor of this my last will and testament hereby revoking all former wills and instruments by me made in witness hereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this seventh day of June in the year of Our Lord seventeen hundred and ninety eight-- William Canter his mark-W

Signed sealed published and declared by the testator to be his last will and Testament in the presence of us: Witness: Joseph Johnson, Cornelius Johnson Wallis, Richard Parker At the foot and on the back of the foregoing will it is thus written to wit:
Charles County Sat Sept 10th 1798 then came James Canter Executor of the will of William Canter late of Charles Co deceased and made oath on the holy evangels of Almighty God that the above instrument of writing is the true and whole last will and testament of said decd that have come to his hands or possession is that he doth not know of any other.

Certd by Humphrey Gaines Resr of Wills Charles Co Md Sept 10 1798 then came Joseph Johnson Cornelius Johnson Wallis (Wallace) and Richard Parker the three prescribing witnesses to the within last will and testament of William Canter late of Charles Co decd
