Sorry... typo on that... should be "Horace." You can see it on Ancestry. It is on page 584 (chapter 31), History of the town of Readsboro, from "History of Bennington County, Vermont." It actually makes a lot of sense when you think how the name might have been pronounced and/or written by those who might or might not have been very literate. "Horace"/Oris was an early settler -- and records might not have been kept if Eunice was born there. I did think of another line of investigation for you -- check newspapers for an obituary of Eunice and see what it says. Not absolute proof, but at least something. Do you have a copy of Al Rhods' book? I have much more hard-copy info. on all of the many families in my tree and am slowly entering it. If you have photos of Jacob Royce's tomstone, that would be great... Jacob is my fourth great grandfather!
I do hope you enjoyed your time in Readsboro -- I think it is one of the prettiest places around and one of my favorite places in the world -- you should see it in the fall!
