Vincent E. Walsh

PITTSFIELD -- Vincent E. Walsh, 79, of 26 Bishop Parkway died Monday morning at Springside of Pittsfield.

Born in Holyoke on Jan. 19, 1921, the youngest of eight children of James and Anna Leary Walsh, he was educated in schools there and graduated from Rosary High School. He graduated from Berkshire Community College and, in 1991, from the former North Adams State College.

A Navy veteran of World War II, he served in the Philippines. He moved to Pittsfield after the war.

Mr. Walsh was employed by New England Telephone Co. for 37 1/2 years, retiring as plant engineering manager on June 17, 1983.

A longtime communicant of Sacred Heart Church, he was a former eucharistic minister and a captain for the annual Stewardship Appeal. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion and the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was also a former chairman of the BCC Hands Across the Generations Scholarship Committee and a former Democratic Ward 4 committeeman.

He and his wife, the former Claire Jane Borlen, traveled to six continents. He also enjoyed playing golf.

He and his wife were married June 29, 1946.

Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, John P. Walsh of Pittsfield and Mark J. Walsh of Mount Vernon, Ind.; three daughters, Rosalind W. Ryan of Buffalo, N.Y., Mary Jane Hanlon of Pittsfield and Regina Walsh Troast of Cambridge, and nine grandchildren.

Another son, Peter V. Walsh, died in 1966, and twin sons, Patrick and Timothy Walsh, died as infants.

FUNERAL NOTICE --Vincent E. Walsh, age 79, died April 3. Calling hours at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME will be tomorrow from 4 to 8. The funeral will be Thursday at 11:15 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 12 noon at Sacred Heart Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the BCC Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home. www.Legacy.com.
