Greeting Gregory - I am writing to you as a descendant of John Read buried in the cemetery at Newman Congregational Church in East Providence. Were you aware that his grandson (or perhaps great grandson) Daniel Read was born in Rehoboth, MA in 1757 became America's foremost hymn composer? He fought in the Revolutionary War and moved to New Haven where he married and raised a family. During his lifetime he published 7 different hymnals that contained 90 of his hymns as well of those of other prominent authors of the day. As I am a musician I am particularly interested in DR and his music, so much so that I have decided to write a biography about him. We recently had a concert at the Church in E. Providence of DR music. Was a great day!!!
