I have nothing constructive to add to this conversation. I just wanted to say thank you to those putting the time and effort into adding information on the school here. I am a resident of 56 St. Joseph St. right now and I was looking to learning more about the buildings past. I am not sure if it had been mentioned yet but there is also a smaller elementary school that shares a parking lot with the orphanage which closed down about a year and a half ago. I was wondering if at any point these two building shared a relationship with students or if the elementary school was build after the orphanage closed it's doors.
The orphanage turned apartment building still has the feel of an old school which can be seen in the hallway architecture and the tile flooring (which I am positive has been refurbished). There is also an elevator now but the stairwells are very narrow and two wings have been added to both sides of the building at some point. If one were to walk behind the building you can still see where the old fire stairways would have been.
