I beg to differ with Jim Miller, but there is *not* "only
one LUCE family in the United States ... all descend[ed]
from Henry Luce of Martha's Vineyard"!! I have combed
through McCourt's wonderful 4-volume genealogy of Henry's
descendents, and it's quite clear I'm descended from
another line:

Etta M. LUCE (b. 1870), daughter of
Charles Albert LUCE (b. 1849), son of
Almon LUCE, Jr. (b. 1820/1), son of
Almon LUCE (b. 1786), son of
Luke LUCE (b. 1757/8), son of
Luke LUCE

Luke the younger through Etta were born in Somers,
Tolland Co., CT and, except for Etta, are also buried
there. Where the elder Luke LUCE came from and when
is still a mystery to me, but it doesn't seem to be
Dukes Co.
