Schell Family in Boston, MA Area 1840-1910
I am trying to piece together the Schell Family in Boston,MA from about 1836-1910. I have found that a limited number of Family Units (10-15) existed in the Boston and Greater Massachusetts Area. Becuase of the fact that they area almost all German Catholics there names are very similar and very difficult to piece together.
I have started with the Boston City Directories and tried to map the family units and place them into FTM and expand them with Census and other data. I am also a member of NEHGS, which has most of the vital records from MA from 1849-1910, so I have cross referenced the vitals were possible. I also have done a IGI search for most of the poeple and been fairly successful in getting the German Records. My Schell family is from Joehlington, Baden, Germany and my grandfather has been talking to the Town Historian and other sources and gotten much information as well. The problem is after 15 Years of my grandfather's work and 300 hours of my work we still do not have anywhere near a clear view of the family before Peter Charles Schell (1825-1900). In a effort to break the case open I have started to map all the Schell's of Boston and Greater Massachusetts.
I know for a fact that my third great grandfather is Peter Charles Schell (1825-1900) who was a baker in Boston. We believe but can not prove that he had at least two male family members in Boston: Charles Joseph Schell (1837-1908) and George Michael Schell (1798-1868). All three of these men had son namesakes: Peter Charles Schell, Jr.(1863-1901), Charles Peter Schell (1858- Aft 1907), George M. Schell, Jr (1839-unknown). All but George Sr were Baker in the Boston Area and it is believed that Charles Peter was Owner of the GEM Bakery, Dorchester, MA and President of Roxbury Bakers Local 59 and leader of the Bakers Strike of 1903. We also believe that all of these men are decendents of John Michael(1768-1847) and Johanna Regina(1759-1852) (Faschon) Schell of Joehlington, Baden, Germany.
I am of course interested in any information about any of these people directly but am also interested in any information about any of the Schell Family of Boston and Greater Massachusetts as I am convinced that somewhere between 50-80% of them are related and also decided the more I know about the Schell's the better chance I have to solve my Schell Families History.
In this effort I have started to set up a Schell's of Boston and Greater Massachusetts MyFamily Page and would love to have anyone who is interested join the site and help me and my Grandfather piece this together and share information back and forth.
Thank You for your Help and if you are interested in the myfamily site please e-mail me at mike@coutrycraftlodge.com
