One thing that has been nagging at me that I wanted to ask about. What is the possibility that she was an Irish immigrant who wanted to cover up her Irish background? That seemed to be a very popular Irish name and I found a "Ellen Jun Harrington" that was born "about 1830" in Ireland and arrived in Boston on May 26, 1848 on the ship Circassian from Skibbereen, Ireland. They could have then gotten married on July 30, 1848.Did that ever happen? Could it happen? (I am not sure what kind of paperwork was needed to get married in 1848.)
I also read something in our genealogical society's newsletter this morning about the fact that in many marriage documents, a widow's parents were not listed, and maiden name would not be used, but rather the last name from her first marriage. This reminded me of when you asked if I was sure that was her first marriage. I assumed it was, which (of course) was a dangerous thing to do, figuring so since they hadn't specified otherwise. Since she was young and may have simply been a young widow, I am going to check the Boston, Scituate, Quincy areas to see if anyone named Harrington married any "Ellens" during the mid to late 1840's and died shortly before or around 1848. Worth a shot anyway. Thanks again for all the help you have assisted me with on this so far.
