Roxbury, part of Boston since 1869, had many iron foundries over the years, but I have never heard of a steel mill there. A steel mill would have to have been located on a more substantial river or body of water than available in Roxbury. Foundries, carpet and linoleum factories and breweries were located on Stony Brook in the Roxbury Crossing neighborhood. Stony Brook now runs, I think, under ground. It is probably an offshoot of Muddy River, which connects to the Charles.

Nicholas Parker of Plymouth, Devon, arrived in Boston, Massachusetts 4 Sept. 1633 and lived there until at least 1652, after which he is believed to have returned to Plymouth, Devon. His will is referenced in the Suffolk County Land (Massachusetts) Records [SLR 10:45-47, 306-07] and is mentioned as being recorded in the 244th (page) of Ye 2nd Booke of Wills. A Documentary History of Chelsea, Appendix 5. It was dated 4 April 1659. He was not related to Sir Nicholas Parker. He did have a son, also named Nicholas Parker, who served in the Royal Navy and died in September 1668 (I have the son's will dated 7 August 1668.)

I would very much appreciate a lookup to find the will of Nicholas Parker, the father, or any possible guidance as to how I might find his will in "Ye 2nd Booke of Wills."

I just looked on a online at random Boston Reg. Death pages that other people have posted on the internet. I am pretty sure the Saratoga is a street where they were living or the baby died. I noticed on all of the columns it said a street name by itself or with st or ave. This may change the church location also I had been looking for in Boston, as I was looking for the street where the boy was born.

Yes it does. Not sure if this is a problem here as sometimes I have seen this happen with this name. So far on this Death record:
child's name - correct
Fathers - First and middle name - correct
Mother's name - Correct
Mother's birth place _ I know IN has been mentioned on several records but don't have the city so this is new.
Father I can't see but if it's Ireland - Correct

The three scans that were sent from Carlos (above) was found at NEHGS, which I don't have. It says Deaths Registered in Boston Page 122 or 22?? That will show the whole thing!! If anyone does find it, my computer can handle it!

As I stated earlier Saratoga could be St. as there is a street in Boston named that and it's 2.9 miles from his birth location. I'm just confused why if he died in NY why would they ad him to the Registered Deaths for the City unless maybe it was a burial.
Anyone have any ideas on that one?

Im still working on this!!
As far as I can tell, this info is NOT available at FamilySearch.org. Four pages are missing somethwhere between Sept. 13 and Sept. 21 in the death register. I've emailed them to let them know...

If the pages are there, they are out of sequence.

Yes I do and everything fits on the birth index!

So place of residence says Saratoga and does the " " mean the person above this child died in NY too? Usually they do that when the above person lives or dies in the same location. Maybe not the same city but the same state. If it is MA above then it narrows down the place of death. You see I'm very confused why it would be listed in a MA Register unless he died there or is buried there. So far I can't see either. I guess I need to find that actual film to check out the lines above it.

You see finding this baby maybe the very link to get past the father as I do have lots of info on him in SF, CA after 1867. The problem is SF, CA doesn't have vitals pre-1906 because of the earthquake and the records I have don't lead back to his family at all. Along with his wife they have been tough to break through. Lots of people have put up wrong info on Ancestry and don't cross reference it to make sure they have the right families. :-(

I tried Family Search and they don't have that book record image only a basic index text that doesn't say much. Did you get that off Microfiche or an online Database? Just curious.
I hate to bother you again but on the image you copied it does say Saratoga and then it has " as if it's a ditto from the live above it for the state. If you happen to still have the image could you look and see if it says NY or MA? It was cut off right at that point.

Gosh not sure how you found that film but it must not of been on a free site as I looked everywhere to see I could go back to it.

No worries if you don't have it anymore.

This is all to crazy! :-)

THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!!

Had an idea after seeing this. There is a SARATOGA st in Boston over near the airport. I looked it up and it's 2.9 miles. Not sure if there was a brigade but this makes more since why he would be listed in a MA Death index. Now I'm going through the indexes online Family Search by county. Not sure it's in Suffolk county back then. I will try and piece this image back together but at least I can see it! I am so grateful for your help! If you need anything in SF, CA let me know! :-) Hopefully it won't take me another 20 yrs to figure the next step on this family!!

Hi,
I am trying to find a burial place and if the obits are like in Sf, Ca. They list family and with this family it's all about tiny details that has help move backwards. Sometimes an address, siblings or parents name or even better a grandparent. I know sounds strange but in San Francisco I have put back together four sides to my moms family that all settled there during 1870s. All vital records were destroyed in the 1906 Eartquake . So using these newspapers is amazing at times. Even the same event newspapers may add different details. :-)

Since I already have had the catholic church look for record and the can't find anything I thought I try the papers.

Since I posted this someone sent me a copy of the index and strange but says the baby died in Saratoga. Strange as it is listed in MA records. Must mean they buried him in MA.

Still hoping since they lived in Boston they would put something in a paper but if they didn't have that paper might be out of luck or maybe I can find a diffirent option.

Thank you so much for looking!!
Cathie

Not sure where the other response went before this?
But on this response it does confuse me a bit but some things fit perfectly.

You have written John M McLaughlin and our is John E. McLaughlin typo or maybe they couldn't read the hand writing when transcribing ?

Died in Saratoga - Going back to the index it doesn't say where he died so I guess it's possible. But why put it in a MA Vital records for Death?

Born Boston - Yes
Father John L. b. Ireland - Yes
Mother Elizabeth b. Indiana (it has been on many records as IN or MO so that is OK but have never seen Oakland IN on anything for Scranton's.

Saratoga, NY could be where John L, parents lived or siblings as I had followed a family but could never figure it out that lived in NY, NY.

I will not rule this out.
Is this something you could take a snap shot of the page and send it email??

Mankzcat@gmail.com

This is very interesting, wish I could find a place of burial so maybe I could go back to the churches and see if they have anything.

Thank you for this new added mystery!!! :-) Always fun with the McLaughlin's and Scranton's!!

Cathie
Hi,
This is interesting and Im not sure why it doesn't list mother as on the Family Search site this is what it says:

Name:	John Mclaughlin
Gender:	Male
Burial Date:
Burial Place:
Death Date:	16 Sep 1865
Death Place:
Age:	1
Birth Date:	1864
Birthplace:
Marital Status:
Spouse's Name:
Father's Name:	John L. Mclaughlin
Father's Birthplace:
Mother's Name:	Elizbaeth
Mother's Birthplace:
Indexing Project (Batch) Number:	I01366-2
System Origin:	Massachusetts-EASy
GS Film number:	593725
Reference ID:

But interesting as there has always been this wild story about my gggm being captured for spying in the Civil War. Maybe she was gone from Boston. I do not know where Saratoga is but honestly they did move around and maybe they had relatives in town as John's family did live there some where.
What doesn't add up the address or the mothers name? Just curious. Not sure where the archiver for Family search got Elizabeth for the name of the mother on the file if you are looking at the same file. Let me see if I can find any other links to Saratoga. Is your file a photocopy or an index typed?

I've never looked up anything on American Ancestors is that a site that cost $$ ? So funny when you said it doesn't add up as NOTHING adds up for this line of the family.
Thank you for being so kind maybe they have the wrong image linked? I'll see if I can find more.
Thanks again!

Hello,
Not sure if anyone can actually do this with out renting the films but thought I'd try the area the events happened and maybe they are easier to come by.

I've tried the Catholic Church records and they can't find them so now I'm going back to the pages I found on the Family Search website. I would love to find a record or something listing a church or cemetery so I can continue to uncover this mystery.

My gggm & gggf had a little boy in Boston and it died when he was one so I would just like to find more about where this sweet baby boy was buried or a baptism record.

Baby Boy : John Edward McLaughlin
Born : Feb. 28, 1864

System Origin: MA-EASy
GS Film # 592870

Parents:
John L. McLaughlin
Elizabeth Scranton

Death: Sept. 16, 1865 age 1

System Origin: MA-EASy
GS Film Number : 593725

If anyone is able to find the record I would be over the top grateful!

Thank you!
Cathie

Hello,
I'm trying to find more about this little boy born to my gggm.
