Gees, I love a challenge!
Looking for your Albert THROWER in Athol I find in the Mass. State vital record index:
Thrower Albert Athol 1851 53 130 Birth (only this record was visible, and is included below)
Thrower Albert F. Orange 1874 262 341 Marriage
Thrower Albert F. Athol 1874 264 240 Marriage
Thrower Albert F. Lawrence 1893 436 453 Death
I do NOT find a similar entry for a Sarah SCOTT (or ANY Sara or Sarah) on those marriage pages in Orange (Franklin Co.) OR Athol (Worcester Co.).
FYI: Orange and Athol are next to each other.
Perhaps Sarah Scott was a second wife, or her name is an error in the Maine record.
Vital Records of Athol, Massachusetts to the Year 1850. Published by Franklin P. Rice, Trustee of the Fund
Worcester, Massachusetts 1910: Stanhope Press, F.H. Gilson Company,Boston, Mass, USA gives the following:
THROWER
*10 July 1838, (and I DO quote) "Ann Maria Ling, s(on of) Abram Ling and Betsey (Thrower) in Sutton, NH."
25 Nov. 1839, in Lancaster, William, s. Abram Ling & Betsy
26 Oct. 1841 Robert Whindard, s. Abram Ling & Betsy
(the next three are the same child, I’m sure, just from 3 different records)
1 Sept. 1843 Sarah Ann, d. Abram Ling & Elizabeth
1 Sept 1843 Sally, d. Abram Ling & Betsy
1844, Sarah Ann, d. Abram Ling & Betsy
(the next two are the same child, I’m sure)
1 June 1845 John A., s. Abraham & Elizabeth
1 June 1845 John Winditt, s. Abram Wing & Elizabeth
[NOTE: this is only time I found Abram’s middle name as "WING."]
(again, these next two are the same child)
26 Mar. 1847 Francis, s. Abraham & Elizabeth
26 Mar. 1847 Francis Winditt, s. Abram Ling & Betsey
and 13 Mar. 1849 Mary Elizabeth, d. Abraham & Elizabeth
Mass. Vital records Index at NEHGS, 1840-1910, do give some of the above, and:
18 Mar. 1851, Albert THROWER, son of Abraham & Elis. Thrower, blank for their birth location. (Vol. 53, p 130)
1853, at Athol, Arthur Scotts
1855, " , Charles E.
1857, " , George Wallace
1858, " , Richard Ellis
1860, " , Harding Addison
*The feminine first name of the son born in 1838 made me curious, luckily, so I searched for the family in the 1860 Census.
This "son" was not with them, or easily found, but I ALSO found, in Lancaster, Worcester Co. that year:
John WINDETT, farmer, age 70, b. England
Phebe - , age 68, b. England
Francis THROWER, age 13, b. Mass.
Since Abraham and Betsey used the name "Windett" for at least two of their sons, I propose that Francis Thrower, b. 1847, was living with his maternal grandparents in Lanacaster, Mass. I decided to follow that line - More on that later.
I know you mentioned that you have access to the censuses, but I needed to find them, too, and not only to see if Francis Thrower, b. 1847, was in Athol for the 1860 census. [He was not.]
At Athol, Worcester Co., Mass. for the 1860 census, and in this order, as of June 1st:
Wm. L Thrower, age 20, shoemaker, b. Mass.
Abraham - , age 48, farmer, real estate valued at $800, pers. property: $2000; b. England
Elizabeth - , age 42, b. England, cannot read or write
Sarah M. - , age 16, b. Mass., attends school
John, age 15, same
Mary E., 11, same
Albert (F?), 9, same
Arthur S., 7, "
Chas. E. , age 5
Geo. W., age 3
Richard E. age 2
Harding W., age 3 months
Robert Thrower, age 19, a shoemaker, was living in Athol in 1860, but in what appears to be a boarding house.
In 1850, the mystery "son" with the feminine name is with the family in Athol
(indexed under THOMER at ancestry.com):
Abraham Thrower, 38, laborer, b. England
Elizabeth, age 32, b. England
Annie M. , (listed as a male) age 12, b. NH
William, 10, b. Mass.
Robert, 8, b. Mass.
Sarah, 6, b. Mass.
John, 5, b. Mass.
Francis, 3, b. Mass.
Mary, age 1, b. Mass.
Additional Athol documents from the Mass. Vital Records, images not on line, that seem to pertain to your line:
Thrower Elizabeth Athol 1871 240 224 Death
Thrower Albert F. Athol 1874 264 240 Marriage
Thrower Abram L. Athol 1876 282 182 Marriage
(perhaps Abram/Abraham married again?)
Thrower Abram Athol 1898 483 630 Death
Some records that were visable:
Vol. 110, P 149 - Marriage on 4 July 1857, Jesse Knight, carriage maker from Dummerston [expect this would be Vermont], to MARIA Thrower, 18, born Sutton, NH, daughter of Abrm. Thrower.
[FINALLY! Ann Maria b. 1838 in NH was FEMALE]
Vol.158, P 191 - Robert Thrower died (no date given) 1862, of Athol, at Newb(urn?), N. C., single, COD: fever, son of Abraham and Elizabeth Thrower, both b. England.
Vol. 167, P 198 - THIS RECORD IS CROSSED OUT, possibly because of the death location?:
Francis B. Thrower, age 15 years, COD: scarlet fever & canker rash; place of death: Lancaster (Mass.), written over: residing in Athol: son of Abraham and Elizabeth, b. England
Now back to the WINDITT name:
He MIGHT be the John WINDAN listed in Lancaster in the 1840 US Census.
1850 US Census at Lancaster, Worcester Co., Mass.:
John Winditt, age 59, farmer, Real estate valued at $600, b. England
Phebe - , age 58
Robert W. Thrower, age 9, b. Mass.
[NOTE: Robert Thrower IS also listed with his parents at Athol in 1850, but here is another THROWER child living with the WINDITTs in Lancaster.]
Just following the Winditt family on the 1850 page is one David MATTHEWS family….
And next listed is another DAVID MATTHEWS, age 36, laborer, R.E. valued at $300, b. England
George W. , age 3, b. Mass.
David W., age 1, b. Mass.
[see epithets following, for wife of David Matthews, Ann WINDITT]
Repeating the 1860 US Census, at Lancaster:
John WINDETT, farmer, age 70, b. England
Phebe - , age 68, b. England
Francis THROWER, age 13, b. Mass.
MASS VR, 1840 - 1910:

John WINDITT, male, married, age 77, COD: consumption; died 17 Feb. 1868, residing in Lancaster, farmer, b. England., son of William and Sarah, both b. England.
I find records for a John WINDIT or WINDITT Jr., born in England, living in Lancaster, Mass., who was married to a "Mary E."
From The Birth, marriage and death registers…..of Lancaster, Mass.:
Epithets:
Sarah - daugh. Of John and Phebe Winditt
Died Sept. 24, 1846, aged 22 years
Mary E. died Nov. 23, 1858 Aged 12 years
Sara A. died Aug 11 1846 aged 1 year
Children of J.W. Jr. & M. E. Winditt
Mrs. Ann Matthews wife of David Matthews
and daugh. Of John and Phebe Winditt
Died Nov. 3, 1840, aged 25 years
Another record in the same source:
Marriages before Rev. Edmund H. Sears
24 Dec. 1844, John Winditt, 25, and Mary D. Jones, 30, both of Lancaster
I didn’t find a death entry for Phebe WINDITT (and various spellings), but as I found the following in Clinton, Worcester Co., Mass. for the 1870 census, I decided to look further for Robert, and to see if there were any deaths for a "Phebe" in Clinton:
Robert Winditt, age 36, worker (Hub?) shop, no real estate listed, b. England
Abbie - , age 37, born Maine
Mabel (T.?) - , age 8, b. Mass.
I found, a death in the Mass. VR Index:
Vol. 321, page 363: Phebe (Benham) WINDILL 1880, that you might want to send for, just to see it.
Mass. Vital Record Index showed the following entries:
At Northboro, on 16 June 1859, married
Robert Winditt, residing in Clinton, comb maker, son of John Winditt, b. England, 1st marriage
Sarah Berry, residing in Northboro, daughter of Thomas Berry, 1st marriage.
And then at Clinton, on July 25, 1869
Robert Windett, age 35, of Clinton, comb maker, b. England, son of John & Phebe; 2nd marriage
Abby B. Berry, age 35, of Clinton, b. Maine, daughter of Thomas & Mary: 1st marriage
Hope this helps,
Shari Strahan
