Nicole -

In the last year I finally connected my Lucy Emerson to John W Roberts. It was thru her oldest child, Nancy Roberts Goodspeed. I found a reference to Nancy's parents, John Roberts and Lucy Emerson. I also knew that Lucy died before her father, because she is mentioned as Lucy Roberts in her father's probate records. I suspect that Nancy Roberts Goodspeed was named after Lucy's mother, Nancy O'Dell Roberts. All of my information is posted in a public tree on Ancestry.com called, "Descendants of Jared Emerson and Nancy O'Dell". I am also interested in comparing notes. I was not able to find much info on several of John and Lucy's children.

Jerry Sandoval

That name isn't recorded in the 1956 plat map. I looked and didn't see it, anyway. If you want, I can scan that part of the plat map and let you take a look at it. I discovered that my dad also had a copy of that same plat map book, and it's in really good condition. Let me know if you want a scan to insure that I didn't miss it. I can scan that township easily. myraherron1 at msn.com

Detroit, MI September 23, 1939, m. Otto August Wolff they had 7 children.

All I know about Bertha is:
Johann and Augusta (Bucholz) Schuelke with Schuelke Children: Wilhelm (m.Maass), Bertha Emma (m.Luebke), Johann (m.Holke), Pauline (m.Schuetz) and Ida arrived in the United States in April 1890, and became citizens in 1895

Augusta's daughter Bertha Bucholz arrived in the USA a few years earlier, possible 1885. Her sponsors lived in Ann Arbor, Michigan and that is where she lived for a few years before moving to Detroit.

All of this info is so sketchy and limited, I am just at a stand still with this branch of the family. If you can help
Please let me know. We have in common Bucholz and Ann Arbor, MI Thank You

Hello!

I am looking for any information on the Gierke and Coleman Families in Caldonia, Alcona Michigan. I am the great grand daughter of Manion J. Gierke son of Ada Loomis and William Gierke. He married Carolyn Coleman who promptly died of appendicitis. He then married Alma. At some point they went to Ypsilanti where she gave birth to a son Manion Jr in March of 1932. After that....she disappears. The story is that she walked out my my grandpa and great grandpa. Her death records place her in Salinas California in July of 85. Anything anyone may have would be great! Thanks!

I am hoping someone may be able to help me. I found the following McLeods on the 1920 census in Alcona Michigan,

Name: Murdock Mcleod
Residence: , Alcona, Michigan
Estimated Birth Year: 1846
Age: 74
Birthplace: Scotland
Relationship to Head of Household: Self
Gender: Male
Race: White
Marital Status: Married
Father's Birthplace:
Mother's Birthplace:
Film Number: 1820753
Digital Folder Number: 4311578
Image Number: 00089
Sheet Number: 5
Household	Gender	Age
Murdock Mcleod M 74y
Spouse Jane Mcleod F 68y

I believe that Murdock's wife Jane is the sister of my great grandfather John Smith. Can anyone tell me what other information appears on the census? I have access to Ancestry.ca but it does not include U.S. censuses.
Also since I cannot find them on the 1930 census, I am assuming they both died between 1920 and 1930. Is it possible to find a death record or place of burial? Both of them were born in Scotland, lived and were married in Ontario, Canada and moved to Michigan in the early 1900s.
Any help would be most welcome.
David

There are also three sons Henry George Grandchamp, Albert William Grandchamp, and Walter David Grandchamp Sr.

I would really love to have copies of the baptism records and share any info I have with you about this family line.

Please e-mail me at jtull@pobox.com

Regards

Jeffrey Tull

Leslie McMaster (b. 1890 in Alcona County) was one of the sons of William McMaster (b. 1857 in Ontario) and Mary Slaght. They resided near Killmaster. William came to Alcona County in the late 1870's from Norfolk County, Ontario. He had brothers Edward, Ira, Lucius, and George. I think this family is unrelated to your Hugh and Daniel. Hugh's marriage is recorded at St. Raphael's Catholic church in Glengarry County, Ontario, 08 Oct 1872. Hugh McMaster, son of Angus McMaster and Christina McMullen, to Marg. McDonell, daughter of Duncan McDonell and Sarah McDonald.

-- John Stewart

Thanks for the info. The family I have been researching is Hugh (father), Margaret (mother). Their children: John Duncan, Sarah, Sadie, Margaret and Mary. The Alcona county library has been very helpful and sent obituaries for both Hugh and Margaret. Hugh died in 1908 in Harrisville and Margaret died in Washington in 1922. She went there after Hugh's death to be with her children. In Hugh's obituary there is mention of a brother, Daniel McMaster living in Harrisville. I don't know anything about Daniel - it could be possible that the Les McMaster could be a relative of Daniel? Do you know who Les' father was or any of his family? How long ago did he own the property beside your's?

Hugh McMaster/Margaret McDonell Family in Harrisville, Alcona

Hugh McMaster and Margaret McDonell were both born and were married in Glengarry County, Ontario Canada. Hugh was born in 1835 and Margaret in approx. 1840. They were married in 1872 in Ontario. I have found a Hugh McMaster living in Greenbush, Alcona on the 1870 census working as a labourer in the lumber trade. On the 1880 and 1900 census, there is a Hugh McMaster, wife, Margaret and children John D., Sarah C. and Mary M. living in Harrisville, Alcona, Michigan. On the 1910 census, Margaret is widowed at 70 years and living with daughter, Mary M. who is 30 years. It looks like Hugh died between 1900 and 1910 in Harrisville. Is there anyone who could provide any info on death records, newspaper obituaries or tombstone lookups for Hugh during 1900 and 1910. I am anxious to find the names of his parents on any document which would confirm that it is the Hugh I am looking for. Any help, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

JAMES PYNE was born in New Brunswick in 1823, and was married to Isabella Craven, of that place in 1850, and came to Alcona County in 1870. He first worked for Ives, Green & Co., at lumbering for two years, and bought eighty acres in Section 28, of Alcona Township, a part of which he cleared and commenced farming. He has a family of eight children, five boys and three girls, who are living in the township. Mr. Pyne jobbed at lumbering successfully for several seasons for E.R. Haynes & Co., of Alcona Township. Subsequently he has lumbered for Alger, Smith & Co. at Black River, and has recently finished a large dwelling house on his farm, but did not live to enjoy the fruits of his hard labor, for on the 10th day of May, 1883, he died suddenly of disease of the heart, and was buried in Harrisville cemetery. He was a kind neighbor, a firm friend and an honest man. The large concourse of neighbors who attended the funeral attested to the respect in which he was held by the community where he had so long lived.
I have seen most of these records, but thank you for looking. I hadn't heard of the "Family History on the Descendants of Joseph Merritt". Were did you find that? Why isn't there a death record for George or Sarah Merritt? Maybe they didn't die in Curtis, Alcona, Michigan. I left a message with the cemetery. Where is George Merritt during the 1900 and 1910 Michigan Censuses?
