Hi Vicki,

This is the same family as Marty Bell's and my ancestors. Here's some of what I have on the line:

Lewis Bell was born 24 Jun 1840 in Rensselaer County, New York to John Bell (b. bet. 1790 and 1800 in Canada) and an unknown wife (b. c. 1800 in Canada).

Lewis Bell was the youngest of John, Sr. and Unknown’s five children:

1. John Bell (b. 16 Jun 1822 in Canada, d. 6 Mar 1906 in Ganges, Allegan County, Michigan-buried in McDowell Cemetery in South Haven)
a. m. Louisa May (b. 15 Feb 1828 in Canada, d. 15 Apr 1905-buried in McDowell Cemetery in South Haven, Michigan) in 1845 in New York (probably somewhere in Rensselaer County).
b. John and Louisa had 15 children and settled in Ganges, Allegan County, Michigan around 1860.
2. MY LINE: Margaret B. Bell (b. 10 May 1827 in Canada, d. 1 Aug 1887 in South Haven, Michigan)
a. m. Joseph Landry (b. 15 Sep 1815 in Yamachiche, Quebec, Canada or Montreal, Canada, d. 19 Mar 1904 in Martinton or Papineau, Illinois) on 5 Aug 1839 in Troy, Rensselaer County, New York.
i. Stories state that Joseph Landry, Sr. left Canada in 1835 traveling to Swatton Falls, 3 miles from Lake Champlain, then west to Troy (Rensselaer County), New York, where he married Margaret Bell. He is the son of Pierre (Peter) Landry and Mary Blais (also spelt Blay).
b. Margaret Bell and Joseph Landry had 10 children, 8 were born in New York.
i. The family resided in Rensselaer County, New York from 1835 to shortly before 1857 when they moved to Ganges, Allegan County, Michigan.
ii. Their first child born in Michigan was Joseph Landry, Jr., born on 14 Nov 1857 in Ganges. So we know they were in New York up until Joseph Jr.'s birth.
iii. My ggg-grandmother was their daughter Margaret Landry (b. 1846 or 1848 in New York) who married Frank May (b. 4 Dec 1841 in Stephentown, Rensselaer County, New York, d. 26 Feb 1924 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois). Frank May served in the Civil War for the 13th Michigan Infantry, Company B. They had two children, Edward and Della in Ganges, Michigan. It is believed that Margaret Landry passed away during childbirth, before 1867.
3. Mary Bell (b. 1834 in New York)
a. m. John May (b. c. 1828-1830 in Canada), d. 28 Feb 1887 in South Haven, Michigan)
b. John and Mary had 5 children, 1 born in Troy, Rensselaer County, New York (Margaret), and the rest born in Michigan (again, probably Ganges or Allegan County).
4. Adelia (aka Delia) Bell (b. c. 1838 in New York)
a. m. Charles Gutters (b. 1820 in Canada)
b. Adelia and Charles had a daughter, Mary, born 1858 in Michigan (probably somewhere in Allegan County).
5. YOUR LINE: Lewis Bell (b. 24 Jun 1840 in Berlin, Rensselaer County, New York, d. 16 Oct 1920 in Leavenworth, Kansas). He served in the Civil War along with Frank May in the 13th Michigan Infantry, Company B.
a. m. Mary Elizabeth May (b. 1845 in Berlin, Rensselaer County, New York, d. 28 Feb 1883 in Manistee, Michigan)
i. Mary May is believed to be the sister of John May who married Mary Bell, Louisa May who married John Bell, and Frank May who married Margaret Landry. Their father was John May (b. 1790 in Canada). Their father John May (enumerated as James J.) is found living in Ganges, Michigan with wife Louisa in 1860.
b. Lewis and Mary (May) Bell had four children together:
i. Mary Elizabeth Bell (b. 1861)
ii. Lewis Bell (b. 1862)
iii. Frank Bell (b. 1868)
iv. Oliver Bell (b. 1878)
c. Lewis Bell died on 16 Oct 1920 in Leavenworth, Kansas.

P.S. I have this in Word format, feel free to email me at familybranchesgenealogy[at]yahoo[dot]com (obviously insert the @ and period where they belong in the email). :)
