Dorothy L. ROOT, Plainwell, Friday night was a night for family get-togethers that many times included fish caught from family fishing trips. Dorothy’s life began December 6, 1919 in Summerville, Michigan, the daughter of the late George and Gladys MYERS. She came to the Plainwell area as a young girl and spent her entire life here. Dorothy was active with the Women’s Relief Corps. A very patriotic woman, her love of country was forged in her heart of country was forged in her heart by the wounding of her husband in WW II, and the loss of her son in Vietnam. Dorothy loved to take her grandchildren to the Kalamazoo Speedway to experience the excitement of watching her son Dave, race. Her grandchildren remember the long drives in the country, punctured with picnic lunches and more often than not an extended trip due to the fact that she would often lose her way and get lost. Her family includes her son and daughter-in-law, Dave and Pam ROOT of Plainwell, 3 grandchildren and their spouses, Tina and Scott COURTNEY, Shawn and Deb ARNETT and Patty WASON, 9 great-grandchildren, a brother, Walter MYERS of Kalamazoo and a sister Shirley COWELS of Plainwell, several nieces and nephews. Dorothy died Wednesday, November 28, 2001 in Kalamazoo and was preceded in death by her husband Carl in 1971, her son Russell in 1967, and two sisters, Laura Myers and Pauline KOPENEN. Friends may call at the Rupert, Durham, Marshall and Gren Funeral Home, Plainwell Chapel today 5-8 pm, where a Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday at 10 am, Pastor Keith Heyn speaking. Burial will follow in the family plot in Hillside Cemetery.
