You might want to try the spelling Shelifoe. There's a lot of them listed the Baraga county censuses. I have family in those censuses so I've spent a lot of time scanning the original documents. Some vowels are often changed due to the person preferring that spelling or transcript errors.

My grandmother was their sister -- her name was Virginia. There was a mention of a Pat and Mary Allie and boys but that is all I have.

My brother in-law is named Kurt O'Myer, after talking to him this is the information I have...His father Lyle O'Myer was born in Whitefish Montana in 1931 to Willard and Isabel O'myer. His father Willard was born somewhere in Michigan. Willards father was Frank O'Myer...brothers are Ely and Treply. At sometime they changed there name to O'Myer from Homier...the story is that they wanted to Americanize the name. Kurt has been told that his father is French-Canadian. Does this help? If you have more information I would appreciate a return. Thank you.

Thank you. I work with Baraga Co. Hist. Museum as a volunteer. We contacted Finlandia because at one time Finland was a part of Sweden. They are the ones that helped us with the Swedish colleges. The museum in Baraga does not have room for more books. We really wanted these books to go to the descendants of these 4 sisters as they are 100 + years old.
I have feeling they will hit the burn pile if we don't get a lead on this. We really don't know who else to contact.
Thank you for your suggestions. Your work is much appreciated by many.

If these sisters were Ohman's , it looks like there are no Ohman's left in Baraga county. The historical society might want them if they have genealogy information on them in Baraga. The Finlandia University is Finnish not Swedish by the way. It was previously called Suomi college.
best regards,
Alicia Marshall
I have been working on the ancestry of David Pennock who married Julia Southwind. Father of David was Elihu Pennock born 1791. Mother was Elizabeth Fort. David was born 1825 in Washington Cty New York. His brother Homer married Annie Hardcastle and had two children, Homer and Jerome. Interestingly, this Pennock family is well researched and so Davids ancestry can be traced back to Yorkshire England to about 1580. Elihu was the son of Samuel Pennock. One of David's daughters Mary Emma who married TC Thomas named her son John Elihu Thomas; Elihu Pennock was her grandfather. The Pennock family history is very interesting. Elihu was a drummer in the war of 1812. I am happy to share.

She died October 20, 1954. She was 84 years old. She is the daughter of Dan Newman who also homesteaded in Skanee, Mi. I have been told that he had seven children. Five of them are Maria Newman Elmblad, Magdella Newman Ohman, Alma Ohman Kingstrom and Johanna Ohman Wick, and Petter Newman. Two of the sisters married men with the last names of Oust and Seavoy. This information has been given to me by Eunice Dove who is a descendent of Allen Elmblad. I know that Johanna had no children and I also met her over 50 years, ago. At that time, she was living with Arthur and Walter at the Ohman homestead. She had a glass eye. She is buried at the Skanee cemetery, as well as Magdella, and Marie. Petter is there, as well.

Anna Charlotta Ohman married Olaf August Paulson on January 3, 1894. They are reported to be the first couple married at Zion. There were no children born of this union.

Heddwig Ulricka Ohman married Lars August Gardberg who was born August 14, 1855. He died August 16, 1903. On June 15, 1008 Heddwig Gardberg married August Paulson. Heddwig is noted as Hedvig, Hedwig and Hedvick, also. There were no children born of either of her two marriages.

When the Ohmans migrated from Sweden, they are noted and remembered as having come from Delarna, Sweden.

I am a descendent of August Paulson who returned to his birthplace, Gotland, Sweden and brought my grandmother, Ida Jakobson to America. She was much younger. Her daughter was Marie, who was my mother.

I am looking forward to learning more about your family and sharing what I have that belonged to your ancestors.
