I'm not related to this family.

American Civil War Soldiers
about Lacy Brant
Name: Lacy Brant
Residence: Berrien County, Michigan
Enlistment Date: 20 Sep 1861
Side Served: Union
State Served: Michigan
Service Record: Enlisted as a Private on 20 September 1861.
Enlisted in Company L, 3rd Cavalry Regiment Michigan on 12 Oct 1861.
Received a disability discharge from Company L, 3rd Cavalry Regiment Michigan on 25 Sep 1863 at Corinth, MS.

Civil War Pension Index: General Index to Pension Files, 1861-1934
Name: Lacy Brant
Widow: Angeline Brant
Invalid status claimed: Nov. 28, 1863
Widow claim: Oct. 16, 1891

U.S. Civil War Soldiers, 1861-1865
Name: Lacey Brant
Side: Union
Regiment State/Origin: Michigan
Regiment Name: 3 Michigan Cavalry
Regiment Name Expanded: 3rd Regiment, Michigan Cavalry
Company: L
Rank In: Private
Rank In Expanded: Private
Rank Out: Private
Rank Out Expanded: Private

Name: Lacey BRANT
Given Name: Lacey
Surname: Brant
Sex: M
Birth: ABT 1809 in Wayne County,New York
Death: 11 SEP 1891 in Royalton Township,Berrien County,Michigan
Note: Lacey Brant enlisted with Company L of the 3rd Michigan Calvary on 12 Oct 1861. He was 53 years of age at the time of his enlistment. He was discharged for "disability" on 28 Nov 1863. Two of his sons also enlisted, George and Vincent Brant. Both George and Vincent were listed as desterers and they both later reentered service. It appears they both desterted a second time? There is a Civil War Marker in the Spring Run Cemetery in Scotsdale, Royalton Township, Berrien County, Michigan which bears the name "Wm L. Brant". It is not clear that this is Lacey's marker. I believe it is. The marker indicates service in the 3rd Michigan Calvary which is the group he served with. He had a son William L. Brant but no record of his service can be found. Lacey's first name may have been William or there may have been a mistake on the stone, perhaps it was ordered by his son, WilliamL. Brant and inscribed wrongly? If this is not Lacey's grave marker then his grave remains unlocated but is likely in Royalton Township.

1850 -
Name: Lacy Bront
Age: 39
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1811
Birth Place: New York
Gender: Male
Home in 1850(City,County,State): Division 10, Berrien, Michigan

Lacy Bront 39, NY - farmer
Angeline Bront 37, VT
Phillip Bront 19, PA
Amanda Bront 15, IND
George M Bront 10, MI
Vincent Bront 9, MI
William L Bront 7, MI
Olive Bront 5, MI
Sarah J Bront 1, MI

Lacey is living next to his parents -
1850 -
Name: Simeon Bront
Age: 74
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1776
Birth Place: Massachusetts
Gender: Male
Home in 1850(City,County,State): Division 10, Berrien, Michigan

Simeon Bront 74, Mass
Sarah Bront 72, Mass
Augustus Bront 23, NY - listed as "insane"

It list names of boats, dates, and how many lives lost. It is listed under boat names by alphabet so you may need to search through every alphabetical letter for the date that you have if you don't have the boat's name. I haven't used the site myself but it looks interesting. Perhaps your boat wasn't big enough to be included in this database - I just don't know. Good luck!

Thank you for your confirmation of my Lucina Tucker family tree. This fits all the information I have and would be very interested in following this family tree if you have more descendants not already listed. When and where did James Brewster die?Since it appears that he was married twice, by which wife or wives were the children. If you can share more, I can be reached by e-mail at Troerew@comcast.net.
Thank you so much!!

I was hoping someone could help me with information on William Richard Garland (b 12 September 1876 in Chikaming Twp, Berrien, Michigan).
He married a Daisy Rhineheart around 1900 (since their first child was born in 1901).
I have found her obituary from 1967 but it does not give her parents names. Only reads that she was born January 27, 1882 in Falling Springs, Clay County, IL. Also reads that William died in 1942 but I can't find death information for him.
Children were: Ethel (married Harold Barney), Bertha (married Don Bruce), Fred, William and Jack.

Can anyone help?

I'm wondering if anyone could tell me where to search for information about a capsized boat and drowning that happened in September of 1857 near St. Joseph. My ancestor Andries Steketee drowned in his capsized boat along with his two sons. I don't have any other information, but thought there might have been an article about it in the newspaper of the time. Andries Steketee was from Holland, Michigan. His wife's maiden name was Neeltje Traas.

Re: my previous post. This may have been Oliver's first wife. In the 1920 census, he is married to J. Bernice, age 31. On his draft registration dated 1918, he is also married and the name of his wife is reported but the image is so faint that I cannot read it well, but it isn't a Helen. In a May 29, 1925 Chicago Daily Times obit for Wilbur Leroy Crepps, "Mrs. Oliver Temme" is listed as one of his surviving sisters. In the 1910 federal census (Chicago), Wilbur Crepps is living in his father's household and has one sister listed, Wilda M., age 17. Perhaps the "Mrs. Oliver Temme" is Wilda or one of his other sisters not enumerated in their father's household. Wilbur is employed at the Triple Action Springs Co. which I believe I found Oliver G. Temme listed as president of. It would appear that Helen was not the only Mrs. Oliver Temme.

The marriage record is earlier than September 30, 1923. I located a news article (using Google news archive search) from the Chicago Times. The summary of the article contents mentions an auto race with "Mrs. Oliver G. Temme". The article is dated Sept. 30, 1923. In order to view the entire article, I would have to pay for it. Your patron may wish to purchase access to the Times archives because there were many other articles regarding car racing and Oliver G. Temme that may be interesting reading. Here's the specific news article that I found with "Mrs." it:

FAIR SPEED DEMONS IN AUTO RACE
Chicago Daily Tribune (1872-1963) - Chicago, Ill.
Date: Sep 30, 1923
Start Page: A5
Pages: 1
Pura Morales was my great-grandmother and I spent lots of time with her as a child. She taught me how to knit and croshe. I loved her and Abuelito Paco very much and would love to know more about them. I origianlly came to this site to find out about my Abuelo Arguimides Morales and his history in the army and specifically about his involvement in the Korean War. I hope that more relatives will sign on and keep this ancestry chain going. I have several relatives in the Morales family that I would love to get in touch with.

~Jennie Marie Morales Sears

Re: Help Locating Marriage Record for Oliver Temme and Helen Tyott/Tiot

Thanks so much for all your efforts to help with this query. You are right about the earlier marriage. I was able to locate an article in the Tribune dated May 4, 1927 reporting that a divorce was granted to Bernice (Crepps) Temme from Oliver.

His second wife, Helen, was interestingly a race car driver. I hadn't thought of this before, but if she was on a circuit at that time they could have gotten married at any of the various stops on her tour. When no marriage record was found in Cook County, I first thought of the typical "gretna greens" such as Berrien (MI) and Lake (IN) counties, but now I'm thinking we'll have to cast a much wider net. If we find an answer, I will be sure to post it here. Thanks so much for your help.

Re: Cornelia Palon

Thank you for your help in my search for Cornelia A Palon
From your reply to my query I found a Orthea Palon in the 1850 census
living with Scoville. In the meantime I found a newspaper article on Ruth Scovell being the younger
sister to Mrs. Ira Ames.
After I found her in 1850 in Wisconsin I could not find her again in Michigan or in Wisconsin.
Then in 1860 I found Ruth Scovell in Wisconsin same family but no Cornelia A Palon or Orthea Palon with them.
Notice different wives to George Scovell in 1850 and 1860. However the 1860 wife does not make sense since the name is so close to "Orthea" and Cornelia Palon's daughter was named Nancy Theo Ames which may really have been Nancy Authea or Nancy Orthea Ames.
I could use some more suggestions and assistance.
