DICKINSON (DIXON)

Recently another poster pointed me to the fact that in the 1900 census for Garfield, Clare, MI, Albert DICKINSON and his wife Mary were listed as DIXON. Also listed was a daughter Ida May.

Sometime between 1900 and 1910 Albert did something that landed him in the Ionia Reformatory. That is where he is in the 1910 census. Mary has moved back into Isabella Township of Isabella County and living with her nephew Daniel. Mary was the youngest sister of two of Isabella Township settlers, Neil and Donald MORRISON. She came to the United States sometime between 1884 and 1885.

I am trying to find two pieces of information. What crime did Albert commit and where did Ida May go?

I have written to the Michigan Department of Corrections but they do not have any record of Albert. They stated that once they are released that records were no longer maintained.

I have also researched extensively for any information on Ida May but so far I have not found anything. I do not know if she died or if she married. Any help here would be appreciated.

Thank you.

William Morrison

Good Day,

I am a genealogy volunteer from Bethel, Maine, USA, helping a gentleman in the country of Norway, Europe, to locate family in Michigan. The people I am trying to find once resided and died in the communities of Farwell and Lake, Michigan.

I am seeking obituaries and burial information on three people:

Stanley G Richards; b. 06 May 1925; d. 31 May 2006; Last Residence, Farwell, Clare, MI.

Georgianna P. Gallant; b. 28 Dec 1900; d. 26 Aug 1993, Howell, Livingston, MI; Last Residence, Garfield Township [Lake], Clare, MI.

Walter Gallant; b. 26 Jul 1896; d. Jun 1976, PEI, Canada; Last Residence, Garfield Township [Lake], Clare, MI.

Stanley is Georgianna’s son by her first marriage. Walter was her second husband. Walter died from an accident at their vacation home in Prince Edward Island, CA, but it is expected he is buried in Clare County.

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Don Angevine
Bethel, Maine, USA

Graham in Michigan

We are three cousins trying to "connect the dots" with our Graham ancestors. We are each decended from different sons of James Sweet Graham.
We believe the Graham family moved from NY to Ontario around 1800. James, born about 1824, was the son of Wm. Graham and Martha/Sarah/Margaret/Pattey Sweet. We have no known siblings for James Sweet Graham. He married first Margaret/Sarah Houghtaling (daughter of Wm. Houghtaling and Mary Davy) and then Louise or Louisa Regan (Daughter of Thos. Regan and the same Mary Davy who was widowed from Wm.)
Looking at old records we find a number of families from the same area of NY state and other points east, in the same geographical area of Ontario, then in the same area of Michigan. These families seemed to follow a migration pattern over several generations.
We are hoping to compare notes with any other Michigan Graham researchers or others who believe their family may some way be connected. There is a missing link we just can't seem to put our fingers on.

Nelson & Rachel Hemstreet - from Canada to Grant Twp. Clare County -1887-1930

Wondering if anybody else is reaching this family?

Nelson was actually born in NY State in 1833 moved to Canada with his family and they settled in Hastings Co. ,Ontario.

He had possibly 2 wives before marrying Rachel Allen in 1875 in Kent Co., Ontario Canada. Rachel was born in 1849 in Ontario, Canada.

Nelson and Rachel immigrated to the USA in 1887 with at least 6 or 7 of their children - George, William, Margaret, James, Robert, Scott, possibly Lucy?

On the 1900 census Nelson has died and Rachel is with four of her sons in Grant Twp...these sons seem to stay in the Clare County area right up to the 1930 USA census.

Wondering if it is possible to get a death registration for Nelson? Looking for who exactly were his parents as there seems to be some confusion on this line of the Hemstreets that came from NY to Hastings county!! This is the long way round..

Appreciate any help on this crew!!

Susan (from Montreal)

Looking for information regarding the town (now ghost town) of Pennock or Pennock Siding in Redding Twp., Clare Co. Pennock was located on the Saginaw Railroad. A Post Office existed in the first decade of 1900. My ancestor Peter Pennock was born there in 1886. His parents were Byron and Mary Jane (Tobey) Pennock. He later married Rosa R. Wrought. A Peter Pennock owned 120 acres (1880's) in both Redding and Winterfield Twps. along the rail line which I am assuming was the site of Pennock. I have little or no information regaring Peter's siblings or the town of Pennock and would love to hear from you if you are interested in this family or the area. You can email me at smyrnami@pathwaynet.com

Thanks,
Kim Pennock
My ancestor James Sweet Graham arrived with his wife Louise and family, travelling from Ontario. I might add his children were all adults. Apparently the family was somewhat prominent in the community. I have LOTS of information on this line. What I am seeking is information on James Sweet Graham's ancestory.
He was born about 1826 to William Henry Graham and Patty (or Martha, or Sarah) nee. Sweet. I cannot find anything about James parents beyond their names. William was living with James and his first wife (Margaret Houghtaling) at the time of the 1871 Canadian cencus.

Clare Co. Marriages about 1890

Does anyone have experience with marriage records in Clare County? I found a record of a marriage of two ancestors at Familysearch.org but I am sure there were two more couples married around the same time in Clare County. I haven't been able to locate a record for the other two couples. I called the clerks office and they found neither. Were all marriages recorded at the county or were some missed? Any ideas or experiences that might help?

Pruden family of Temple, Redding Township, Michigan

My great-great-grandfather was John Pruden (middle name was possibly Francis). He was married to Annabell Tolles. John was from Ohio but lived in Temple. Annabell died and was buried in Temple. John then moved to Wood County, Ohio and he died in 1931. He was sent to Temple, Michigan to be buried with his wife. His obituary lists three of his children that were living in Temple at the time of his death. They were Mrs. Laura Burns, and Frank & Fred Pruden. I believe Frank's name was Francis and went by Frank. I was wondering if anyone knows of this family and knows if there are still Prudens from this line living in that area. I would also like to know if anyone has cemetery information for this area. I would love to know where they are buried and have a photo of their headstone.

Thank you,
Corrie

I believe he lived with a son David Burke and his wife Maggie and son Edward. Another daughter Maggie was about 27 yrs. of age in 1900 and was living away from the home and presumably married. David was a blacksmith and father Charles was a carpenter. If anyone has any information or links to these people I would appreciate hearing from them as Charles was my greatgrandfather and David a greatuncle. Murray in Ontario
