The following is from the Goss Family Newsletter, Vol. 2, Issue
6, page 3, dated November-December 1995:

The Henry Boatman family moved to Illinois in 1853 --
following their two older sons into Richland County. They
lived two miles north of Claremont on a farm owned by a Mr.
Knarr, now known as the Howell of Philip Kocher place. After
living in Illinois for a year, which was a severe drought year,
they moved to Eaton Rapids. Some of their unmarried children
accompanied them. Their two older sons, George and Barnabas,
drove through to Illinois with their uncle Jacob Goss and
family in 1843 (about). Barnabas made a home with his uncle
until about 1844 when he married Cassie Hanes.
