Funeral services for Mabel SHORTER, 64, of Pellston, will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at the Pellston United Methodist Church. The Rev. Morris Reinhart will officiate and burial will be in McKinley Township Cemetery, Pellston.
Mrs. Shorter died May 2, 1984, at Little Traverse Division of Northern Michigan Hospitals.
The former Mabel LAMPINEN was born Nov. 25, 1919, in Duluth, Minn., the daughter of Emil and Hilda LAMPINEN. She attended school in Kettle River, Minn., graduating from high school there in 1937. Following graduation, she moved to Northern Michigan in the early 1940s and worked for the Federal Aviation Administration in Cadillac before transferring to Pellston in 1946 where she continued to work for the F.A.A.
In 1948 she married Earl BONTER in Pellston. The couple made their home there and Mr. Bonter died Dec. 21, 1958. She continued to make her home in Pellston and on Oct. 2, 1963, married Lester SHORTER in East Jordan. The couple have made their home in the Pellston area since that time.
Mrs. Shorter was a member of the United Methodist Church in Pellston and several church organizations. She was also a charter member of the Pellston Lioness Club.
Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Gary (Judy) MC CASLIN of Kansas City, Mo.; one son, Raymond BONTER of Orlando, Fla.; seven grandchildren; one step-daughter, Mrs. William (Elaine) MALLORY of Montreal, Quebec, Canada; two sisters, Mrs. Alfred (Margaret) SANDVIK of Two Harbors, Minn., and Mrs. Signe JUTILA of Cloquet, Minn.
The family suggests memorials to the Pellston Methodist Church-Jaquay Circle. Envelopes for that purpose may be obtained at Stone Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, May 4.
