Mildred "Millie" M. HIAR, 70
Mildred "Millie" M. HIAR, 70, of Petoskey, died April 6, 1998, at Munson Medical Center in traverse City.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 9, at Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey. The Rev. Russell Stevens will officiate.
Millie was born Dec. 9, 1927, in Perrinton, Mich., the daughter of Clarence and Nettie (WAGER) HAGERMAN. She grew up in Lansing and attended Michigan school for the Deaf in Flint.
She moved to Petoskey in October 1961, and went to work for the Petoskey News-Review in 1962 as a proof reader. She worked for the News-Review for 27 years, retiring in 1990. She then moved to Davison for six years and returned to Petoskey in 1996. Most recently, she had been working part time at the News-Review.
Millie loved to golf. She helped with sign language classes at North Central Michigan College, and loved to collect memorabilia from the movie "Gone With The Wind".
Her family was her number one priority in life.
Survivors include four children, Francis HIAR and his wife, Shirley, of Petoskey, Gregory HIAR and his wife, Kim, of Boyne City, Rae PADGETT and her husband, Chester, of Petoskey, and Debbie KAN and her husband, Jim, of Petoskey; her very special friend, Clare POWERS; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five brothers, Russell HAGERMAN, Jack HAGERMAN, Robert HAGERMAN, Gary HAGERMAN and Clarence HAGERMAN Jr., all of Lansing; one sister, Thelma WOODRING, of Orlando, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews. Millie was preceded in death by two brothers, Carlos and Richard.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Michigan School for the Deaf or to the Michigan Heart Association. Envelopes for memorials are available at Stone Funeral Home in Petoskey, where visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 8.
