James F. "Jay" ROOT, 18, of E. Front St., Perrysburg, Ohio, died Monday, July 19, 1999, at his home.
He was born May 5, 1981, in Sylvania, Ohio, to David L. and Kay L. (FUHRMAN) ROOT. Jay attended Perrysburg schools, where he was on the honor roll, and St. John's Jesuit High School.
He spent his summers in Harbor Springs, enjoying outdoor activities. He had a deep love of nature and was an avid outdoorsman enjoying rafting and mountain climbing. He completed the Outward Bound Progran at Hurricane Island and the American Adventure Program in Hawaii as well as in Colorado.
Jay was a musician who played the guitar, drums and piano. He was a sensitive young man with a kind and loving heart. He was a natural leader and will be sadly missed by his family and many friends and classmates.
He is survived by his parents, David and Kay ROOT, of Perrysburg; sister, Whitney G. ROOT, of Perrysburg; grandparents, Robert and Carola ROOT of Boca Raton, Fla., and James and Charlene FUHRMAN of Fort Wayne, Ind.
Friends will be received 5-9 p.m. today, Thursday, July 22, at the Witzler-Shank Funeral Home in Perrysburg.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 23, at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, 871 E. Boundary St., Perrysburg with the Rev. C. Eugene Pearson officiating. Burial will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Black Swamp Conservancy in Perrysburg, or to Thorne Swift Nature Preserve in Harbor Springs.
