Thurman E. BIRD, 91, of Boyne City, died Thursday, May 7, 1998, at his home.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, May 10, at Stackus Funeral Home in Boyne City. The Rev. Ray N. BIRD will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Lawn Cemetery in Boyne City.
Mr. BIRD was born Feb. 14, 1907, in Boyne City, the son of Elmer and Vera ROTH BIRD. Hes graduated from Boyne City High School in 1925 and then attended Ferris Institute.
Thurman worked in the banking industry starting at Springwell State Bank, Fordson State Bank as a cashier, Manufacturers National Bank and lastly at Commerica. He retired in 1972.
He summered at the family cottage at Glenwood Beach and moved to Boyne City permanently in 1996. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys STEPHENSON BIRD, on Dec. 18, 1980.
Survivors include his sons, Ray BIRD of Baltimore, Rear Admiral Ralph G. BIRD of Jackson Hole, Wyo.; daughter, Carol VAUGHN, of Boyne City; grandchildren, Susan, Stephen, David, Ralph Jr.; Laura, Roger, Beth, Christina, Eric; and nine great-grandchildren.
The family wishes memorial contributions be made to First Presbyterian Church of Boyne City. Envelopes for memorials will be available at the Stackus Funeral Home in Boyne City, where friends may call from noon until the time of service on Sunday, May 10.
