On Jan. 10th, Ruth’s angels took her to heaven to be with her beloved husband Miles.

Her funeral will be 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, at the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix. The Rev. Michael Teuscher of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Charlevoix will officiate and burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Charlevoix.

Ruth was born Jan. 2, 1911, in Cedar Run, Mich., the daughter of Everett and Alberta (HARVEY) CRAIN.

On Jan. 2, 1928, she married Thomas Miles “Rusty” RUSSELL in Charlevoix, where they made their home. Rusty preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 1987.

Ruth enjoyed gardening and her garden was once featured in the Detroit Free Press. She also pursued her family’s genealogy and had traced her ancestors back to the Revolutionary War.

She is survived by her sons, Kenneth (Barbara) RUSSELL and Butch (Betty) RUSSELL, all of Charlevoix, and Wayne RUSSELL of Muskegon; daughter, Maxine McKERRACHER, of Fort Wayne, Ind.; 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Elmer (Clara) CRAIN of Boyne City, Glen (Ruth) CRAIN of Charlevoix, and Leslie CRAIN of Raymond, Wash.; sisters, Celia INGALLS and Ruby DENNY, both of Ellsworth. Ruth was also preceded in death by a daughter, Juanita, and a son, Walter.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethany Lutheran Church Building Fund or to the Alzheimer’s Association. Envelopes for contributions are available at the Winchester Funeral Home, where friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, and from 3 p.m. until the time of service Thursday, Jan 13.
