Susan M. Udell and William H. Smith - Flint, Genesee, Michigan

I am looking for information to "fill in the blanks" about my great-grandaunt Susan M. Udell and her husband, William H. Smith. Below is what I have been able to find to date.

Susan M. Udell was was born on 20 Jul 1878 in Sanilac County, Michigan to John and Emma Udell. Michigan birth records show her name as Suanna Miria Udell. Her father died in 1879. The 1880 Census shows her living with her mother, and her name appears as Susan M. Udell. Michigan marriage records show that she married William H. Smith, son of James Smith and Jennie Stover, on 25 Oct 1897 at Flint, Genesee County, Michigan. Her name on the marriage record is Susie Udell.

William H. Smith was born circa 1865 at Flint, Genesee County, Michigan. The record of his marriage to Susan shows his occupation as a butcher.

I have searched the censuses of 1900 through 1930 without success, and have not been able to locate any death records, mainly because I have no dates to work from.

Does anyone have any information on these people?
Genesee County was the home of Native American ancestors between ?? - 1908. They were relocated to Minnesota or Wisconsin around 1908. I am looking for information on how this relocation occurred, and any land records, as I am told that John Adams (aka, Sidney Muchoputch) owned land by the river. John had a sister named Virginia "Jennie" Crane who married ?? Gallagher. My great uncle, Alfred Allenson Gallagher, had to be sent across the river to go to an indian school. I would like to know the name of the river and possibly the name of the indian school (Mount Pleasant is the only one I can find reference to in Michigan).

Any help is appreciated!!

My GGGGrandfather, Russell Welch lived in Genesee County with his wife Fanny along with his sons Alonzo and Philo and daughter Susan. Russell was born in 1794 and died Nov 2, 1881 in Genesee. (Reports of his birth place are generally New York; however, it seems to change from Canada to Pennsylvania with the censuses -- but the same people). Land Grants say he was from Erie County, NY. Fanny was from Canada, but other than her birthdate of 1800, I know nothing else. If anyone has ANY information about this family I would be appreciative. I think their daughter Susan (born 1840) may have married Chester Darby. If anyone has access to any information off of the Death Index, Russell Welch is listed in Vol. I Page 185, Record 26 -- I know no other details than this.

Oh, my GGGrandfather was his son Alonzo (born 16 Oct 1832 in NY)

The place, and age are accurate, but wondered if this line belonged to anyone who could help confirm or deny for me! THANK YOU

Looking for cousins/descendants of Solomon and Clarissa Dunwell Lathrop. The Lathrops were from New Canaan, Columbia County, NY and settled in Michigan with their family of 11 children after 1830.

I believe my great great great grandmother Clarissa Lathrop Nelson (abt. 1807-1889)was one of their children. Nathaniel and Clarissa Nelson lived in Mundy Township, near Flint, Michigan.

Other Lathrop siblings were: Horace, Elizabeth and Hopestill. I have been unable to locate any information about them.

Solomon Lathrop's father and grandfather served during the American Revolutionary War.
Ada FROBISHER (adopted name DENTON) was born in Grand Blanc in 1874 (source: Genesee birth records). She was raised by her step-father, Emory DENTON and mother, Alice JEFFERY. In 1900 she married Edgar A. COWLES. Edgar was born in Minnesota and at the time of their marriage was listed as a dentist in Spencerville, OH (source: Genesee marriage records).
I'm interested in finding anyone who might know Edgar and Ada or any possible children. I've lost Ada...can't find her in the 1900 census anywhere.
Thank you very much!
jamie

I am hoping to find a picture of Winnifred Martha Smith. She lived in flint and attended Central High School. She was born in 1922 but did not graduate from high school. She married Roy Smith. Does anyone know if yearbooks were available? Would anyone be willing to look for Winnifred's picture? There are no other family portraits of her, sadly they were destroyed. School pictures may be our only hope.

Thank you!
Laura Tom

I need a death date lookup, please. Phebe M. Springsteen Dibble is buried at Old Prospect Hill Cem., Fenton. There is a photo of her tombstone online, but the stone is cracked all the way through the death date. All I can make out is the date 24. The year is what I really need. I am hoping that someone has the Merle Perry Cemetery Book #4, and that he was able to transcribe the stone before it cracked.

Any help appreciated. I know she died between 1856 - 1859.

Thanks much.

Need help with Goodrich, MI obituary

My great grandmother, Amy/Amie Estella Hyler was born in Bath, MI in August of 1871. She was married in KS to Arthur E Butts on December 31, 1890. May 28, 1901 Arthur died of pneumonia leaving Amy a widow with two young sons. December 30, 1905 Amy became Mrs. James Benjamin Scully (or Sculley) in LaPeer, MI. On August 23, 1929 Amy was buried at Oak Hill Cemetery in Battle Creek, MI. She was laid to rest beside her first husband, Arthur. The cemetery has told me that Amy's residence was given as being in Goodrich, MI.

I'm in hopes that someone from the area in or around Goodrich could check to see if there was ever an obituary for Amy.

I'm a senior citizen living on a small fixed income in AZ with no chance of ever coming to MI to look for that information.

Any assitance would be greatly appreciated!!

Thank you,

L C Smith

POSS. DEATH OF HENRY RICH IN GENESEE COUNTY IN 1890'2?

Am searching for a possible death in Genesee county of Henry Rich, born about 1860 in Worth Twp, Sanilac county, Michigan. His parents were Henry Sr., born about 1826, Ann, his wife, born about 1832, and siblings George, Mary, and Sarah. I found that much in the 1860 census, in Worth Twp. In 1880, I found Henry working as a farm hand with the Merrill family, in Lexington, Sanilac, Michigan.

Henry married my grandfather's sister, Nancy Middaugh, July 4, 1883, in St. Clair, Michigan. I have a picture of Henry taken in Flint, MI, but do not know when it was taken, but he is an adult in the picture. It was taken by W. C. Foote, 500 Saginaw Street. Maybe someone could find a city directory that might show when that photographer was in business? I know that Henry and Nancy were no longer married when she married John E. Sly in about 1901, since they are seen in the 1910 census in Worth Twp and have been married 9 years. In the 1900 census, Nancy is with her parents also in Worth, as Nancy Rich.

So, some time between the marriage in 1883 and the census in 1900, Henry has disappeared. Only because of the picture am I asking for help to identify if he may have died in Genesee county during those years. Please help!
Maude Gregory was born on Oct 5 1885. Her father died and she was given in adoption to William and Charlotte Brown who lived in the Genesee/Oakland County area. Maude's birth mother remarried and she had a half-brother, Glen Merriwether. She had 5 step brothers, Charlie, Alger, Alfred, Audley and Georgie Brown. I believe the Browns and Gregorys were possibly related and had immigrated from Canada; because of their contact after the adoption. Maude married George Tryon and they moved to Darke County Ohio. I am looking for any information on these families. I would like to know her birth father's name and her birth mother's maiden name.I can be emailed at jkh1952@yahoo.com Thanks.

POW/MIA Korean War Genesee Co. BOOTH, GOULDMAN,WALLACE

I am searching for the family of three soldiers who was killed in the Korea War. When they entered service they gave Genesee as their home of record.

Soldier:ROBERT EUGENE BOOTH
Born: 1930
Date of loss: March 15, 1954 POW

Soldier: ALFRED V. GOULDMAN
Born: April 6, 1930 Caucasian
Date of loss: October 13, 1950 MIA

Soldier: PENDLETON W. WALLACE
Born: November 23, 1932 Black
Date of loss; Feb. 28, 1951 POW

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 102 families from Michigan that have not been located. There are Three families from Genesee County that has not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find these families. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating these families.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
I recently found my grandfather's WW1 Draft registration card. On that card he stated that he was employed with Stewart Body Works in Flint, MI. He also stated that his job was “Machinest on wood”. Can anyone tell me what Stewart Body Works was and what my grandfather’s duties would have been? My email address is: klynhinkle@aol.com

Albert C.(Bertie) Hope / Wayne A. Hope

My name is Mary Lou Miller, and I am the gggrandaughter of Alfred Hope, who immigrated from England to Ontario Canada in the mid to late 1800s. I have been able to trace his life in Canada: From his marriage to Mary Ellis, to his family moving to Cheboygan, Michigan, and finally to his death at the home of his son, Albert C. Hope, in Flint. From the research that I have done into the Hope family, it appears that Albert's wife was Laura, and that they had four sons, Ralph, Kenneth, Garrett, and Wayne, and that they lived on Mississippi Ave. in the city of Flint in 1930. I would love to contact anyone from the Hope family, and I would be happy to exchange information with them. I have been trying for years to find out where Alfred's family lived in England, and to find out his parents names, since they are listed differently on his marriage registration in Canada, and his death registration in Michigan.
Many thanks.
