COUCH- On the 13th inst., at his home in Summit City, Mich., George M. Couch ,age thirty years ,six months and four days.
For some months he had slowly declined under that subtle and resistless disease consumption .The last few days of his life were marked by so rapid decline that his death though for a long time considered inevitable, was a sad surprise to the community ,and its announcement occasioned general sorrow. Funeral services were held on Sunday and friends from far and near gathered to show their respect for the dead and their sympathy with the bereaved . Monday the remains were taken to Traverse City and there interned in the cemetery ,many friends and neighbors accompanying the mourning wife and relatives to assist in the last sad rites . Deceased came to this county a little more than four years ago, locating first at the village of Mayfield ,afterwards at Summit City. His cordial manner and sterling integrity made friends of all with whom he became acquainted ,to know him intimately was to love him. Ever actuated by a high sense of honor ,with a heart warm with sympathy and love ,true to his own high ideal of Christian manhood ,he lived honored and respected as a citizen and died lamented by all. So perfect was his Christian faith that he looked upon approaching death with no feeling of alarm and desire to live only that he might spare loved ones the grief or separation . To her who less than two years ago stood by his side a happy bride ,remains a sweet reminder of the dear departed .an infant son; to her remains the sweet solace that ,though earthly ties of love are broken , in heaven they are eternal . May the loving Saviour lead her to see that there are no wounds of providence which His mercy cannot heal, no love so tender as His own. Com.
