Katie, just posting this information to update the public record boards.
I wrote to both the Michigan Archives and also to Mecosta County to see if there was a birth record for Irene. Neither one could locate one.
However, since that time I located the family in the 1880 Montcalm County census (indexed under the misspelled "GESMOND" instead of GERMOND). I am going to see if the Montcalm County Clerk has any record of her.
