DESCENDANT of PIoneer Thumb Family, 91 dies
Mrs. Anabelle Scranton, widow of Filmore g. Scranton and descendant of a pioneer family, died Saturday in harbor Beach community hospital. She was 91 years old. Mrs. Scranton's family was prominent in business, church and civic affairs of the thumb and elsewhere more than a century. She was the daughter of a Civil War veteran and the widow of a Spanish American War Veteran. Daughter of Mr and Mrs George w. jenks, Mrs. Scranton was born August 4, 1877 in Harbor Beach. her father was a lieutenant in the Union Army.Her brother George J. Jenks and her father were among the founders of Huron Milling Company, predecessor in Harbor beach of Hercules, inc. Her husband who she married Feb. 25, 1908 in detroit was associated with Huron Milling Co. from 1911 until his death december 30, 1924. he was general manager when he died. before coming to Harbor beach, Mr. Scranton was manager of michigan Sugar Company plant at Croswell from 1903 to 1911. he previously practiced law in Detroit.
