Passed away on March 19, 2004 at his home. Jacob was born on August 5, 1921 in Carpelle, Netherlands, the son of Catrinus and Sussanna C. (Vanderbeek) Verploegh. He was a Veteran having served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Jacob received his U.S. Citizenship in 1945 while serving in the U.S. Army. He married Barbara Wood on June 7, 1947. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna M. Lombardini in 1981, two sisters, Anna Bingham and Johanna Lyons, and a brother, Adrian Verpleogh. Jacob was a life long fisherman. He loved to camp and enjoyed watching baseball and football on television. Surviving are his wife, Barbara to whom he was married for 56 years and their children, Michael J. (Kathleen) Verploegh of Grand Rapids, Terry (Greg) Miller of Portage and Robert A. Verploegh of Parchment, eight grandchildren, including his special granddaughter, Rhonda Lombardini, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received on Sunday, March 21, 2004 from 1 - 3 p.m. and 4 - 6 p.m. at

where Funeral Services will be held Sunday evening at 6:00 p.m. Cremation will take place following the funeral service. Private interment of cremains will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Borgess, VNA & Hospice or the American Lung Association.
