RANSEL, Katherine T.

Passed away June 18, 2004 at Battle Creek Health System. She was born November 13, 1910, the daughter of Leigh M. and Rachel M. (Clark) Turner in Battle Creek. A Battle Creek High graduate, she continued her studies at Goucher College and graduated from the University of Michigan, where she was affiliated with the Alpha Phi sorority. Katherine lived life to the fullest, traveling to every corner of the world, working in her Gull Lake flower garden, avidly watching U of M's football games and hosting family gatherings to name just a few. She was a member of many organizations including the AB Chapter of P.E.O., a charter member of the Gull Lake Area Community Church, Ladies of the Lake, and the University of Michigan's Presidents Club. She was also a member of the 43rd Avenue Presbyterian Church and The University Club, both of Gary, Indiana. Katherine married Joseph A. Ransel on June 20, 1969. He survives. Also surviving are sons, J. Leigh (Carol) Melvin of Drummond Island, Bill (Joyce) Melvin of Hickory Corners; four grandchildren, Jamie (Amy) Melvin, Laura Melvin, Jennifer (John) Rodriguez, Jeremy Melvin; five great-grandchildren, J. D., Stuart, and Abby Melvin, Deric Murray and Coleman J. Rodriguez; stepchildren, Joe (Maribeth) Ransel of Indianapolis, Indiana, David (Terry) Ransel of Bloomington, Indiana, Katherine Ransel of Seattle, Washington, Elizabeth (Peter) Mavrelis of Crown Point, Indiana; step grandchildren, Susan (Gene) McDonald, Jeff Waldeck, Julie (Cass) Johnson, Kristin (Arthur) Gross, Laura Erdei, Jeff (Julie) Ransel, Jim (Hilary) Ransel, Shairstin Ransel, Anna-Lisa Ransel; step great- grandchildren, Melissa and David McDonald, Lily Ransel, and Julia Elizabeth Gross. Preceding Katherine in death are John Coleman Melvin in 1964, and brother, Roger Nelson Turner in 1974. Family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at

Services will take place 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Gull Lake Area Community Church in Richland. The family asks donations go to Gull Lake Area Community Church Memorial Fund or the SLD Learning Center, 504 S. Westnedge, Kalamazoo, MI 49007.
