Does anyone know how I can get access to medical records of a patient at the Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital (formerly Kzoo State Hospital, and MI Asylum for the Insane)? My GGGrandmother Betsy Phillips Watson (husband: John Henry Watson)was a patient there from 23 June 1905 - 1 March 1915 and again from 29 June 1917 - date unknown. She died in Eaton County in 1933, so we know she was released from the hospital a second time. I talked to the hospital records administrator and the records exist (some there; some in state archives)but she says I can't get them unless I am one of the persons described by the applicable state law, MI Code 330.1748. And I am not. I keep thinking there MUST be a way to get the medical records of an ancestor who has been dead for 65 years! Can anyone out there help me? Thanks!
